BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ An 11-year-old city girl who police said was impregnated by a 75-year-old man has given birth.

A state Department of Children and Families spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday that the girl is now a mother. The girl and the baby are both in DCF custody.

``We will continue to be involved with her and the baby. Both are safe, spokeswoman Joan Gurski said.

Jimmy Kave, accused of fathering the child, is charged with six counts of first-degree sexual assault, eight counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of sexual assault in the fourth degree.

Police said Kave, who was arrested April 17, admitted having sex on several occasions with the girl beginning in January 2001, but claimed she had enticed him. Kave met the girl through an ``Adopt-A-Godparent'' program at his Bridgeport housing complex.

Authorities also charged the girl's doctors with failing to report the abuse to authorities when they learned she was pregnant. Attorneys for Drs. Mukesh Shah and Ann Lule have asked a judge to dismiss those charges, claiming there is insufficient evidence.

The 75 year old man should spend his last years locked up. And the doctors and anyone else that "looked the other way" in this should be severely punished. Eleven years old......

The first thing I want to see is a paternity test. Maybe the old guy did have sex with her, but that doesn't mean that he is the father.

What difference does it make whether he's the father or not? He had sex with an eleven-year-old child, for Pete's sake.

That NJ judge is amazing, isn't he. Apart from his disgusting personal opinion, it seems he doesn't even begin to grasp the concept that he is supposed to apply the law, not opine on how things we have laws against aren't really bad. I think he needs to do some time in a maximum security prison -- it would only take a couple of days to get a reality check through his thick skull, assuming the other prisoners were informed in advance of what he was in for. And of course the other prisoners would all say it had been consensual, and they'd make sure he knew better than to contradict their claim.

I imagine that you wouldn't be leaving your 10-year old with a stranger. If it were to happen, you would certainly question your child afterwards, even just to be chatty. I am sorry, but this story stinks. Sounds to me like she was 10 going on 40. You are correct, 10 year-olds cannot consent to sexual contact, period, so therefore the geezer should justly be subject to criminal action. However, I am not convinced that this 10 year-old couldn't escape a 75 year-old's unwanted advances.
