The Chandra Levy murder remains in Wednesday's headlines, mainly because the "whodunit" has a political link. According to The Hill , a newspaper covering the Capitol, the Levy family considers Rep. Gary Condit -- a California Democrat -- a suspect in Chandra's murder.
Chandra's family mourned her death on Tuesday, just hours after the D.C. medical examiner ruled that the 24-year-old woman had been murdered. Based on the skeletal remains found in a Washington park, however, the medical examiner could not say exactly how she was killed.
According to The Hill , Chandra's family is now redoubling their efforts to link Chandra's death to Condit, who lost the Democratic primary in March - and therefore, will lose his seat in Congress in January.
Condit is "in seclusion," according to his aides.
A Levy family source told The Hill , "We believe that in her final days on this earth that he [Condit] found out that other people knew about the affair, and we believe that he was trying to break off the relationship."
According to the police investigation, Condit's wife Carolyn was in Washington when Chandra disappeared.

Would you follow this case so closely if it was a Republican involved?
What is so silly about this question?

Perhaps they had one last fling and it was disastrous. Perhaps she WAS moved from her apt. (They never mentioned the physical evidence they took from her apt.) Remember his wife was in town. Her apartment would fit better into the time line. Have plenty of time for "a quickie"; Chandra dead; plenty of time to move the body and clean up the apartment. They weren't looking for her for days (Condit didn't even call her) HHHMMMmmmmm
To: Marysecretary
She says she has evidence of his sexual exploits and friends who participated. I wonder if any reporters or news anchors were among the participants. What's the frequency, Gary?

"THIS JUST IN, THE SUN IS EXPECTED TO SET IN THE WEST LATER TODAY."And George Bush will do nothing to prevent that, either.

i think what we need here is a viligante group who will stretch out his arms and legs until he squeals all. and then give the video tape to Fox News for anyone interested in the truth to see. wouldn't that be great and revealing!?!?! give larry thefallenking a drool bib while he has an exclusive of chad and legalgregarious shoot the sh*t for an hour. don't count on the dc keystone cops, though. they haven't figured out when the donut shops open, muchless absolutely verifying where condidit was minute-by-minute the day of Chandra's disappearance. and, according to AM Smith on Fox News last night, all who have been involved with condidit need to be asked the right questions -- including condidit himself. and that condidit as a member of congress getting special treatment from the keystones -- DAMN THE SPECIAL TREATMENT -- this lying a**hole is OUR servant -- not the other way the around. who's more incompetent -- the keystone cops handling this case or the fbi bureaububbs mishandling the terrorist files???

No, Condit added the $10,000 to the Levys' reward fund
after she was reported missing and the DC police were searching her apartment.
From the timeline --
" On the 10th D.C. police conduct their first search of Levy's apartment. Condit's office issues a statement saying of Chandra, "She's a great person and a good friend." He then donates $10,000 of his campaign funds to a reward fund dedicated to finding her. (California Sen. Dianne Feinstein contributes $5,000. The fund now has $40,000.) While Condit himself doesn't speak publicly, his aides deny there was any romance between him and Chandra. Around this time the police interview Condit for three hours.

Newcats, actually, I think I would follow it just as closely. I don't want to trivialize this because a young woman is dead and her family has no doubt been through hell during the past year, but it is the missing person/murder mystery/Washington politics combination that makes it so fascinating for me. I have no illusions that Republicans in general are less capable of murder -- or stupid affairs -- than Democrats, even though I might like it if that were true.

And even though he is a Rat, he still deserves to be innocent till proven guilty. In a court of law when he is being tried by a jury of his peers, one is not so entitled in the Court of Public Opinion.
Contrary to posted thoughts, there is actually quite a bit of evidence to be gleaned, most of it circumstantial, I will grant you. Men have been hanged on circumstantial evidence alone.
Condit and Condit alone is responsible for the predicament he finds himself in, whether he is guilty of her demise or simply guilty of being an incredible crud who doesn't know how NOT to behave in a guilty fashion.
To: soozla
"YES, it is certain..."It certainly is not certain. See post 107. By the time Condit put up the 10K (of constituents' money), the Levys had already posted a 25K reward for their missing daughter. Feinstein also put in 5K.
Condit's behavior is already suspicious enough without adding imaginative details.

Your point is a very good point. He never tries to call her, very strange. The only possible explanation is if he never called her, she always called him. However, I don't believe that to be true. So your point is very interesting!
To: PJ-Comix
In this day and age, nothing surprises me. Somehow I can't see Dan Rather into kinky sex, but as I say, nothing would surprise me!
To: newcats
Would you follow this case so closely if it was a Republican involved? Is it just that a Rat is involved that makes it so interesting?
And please do not tell me that a Republican is not capable of similar actions.... Apparently some Reublicans were involved in that Congressional Sex Club -- it's only that Condit's gal is the one who turned up missing and is now found to have been victim of a homocide. These threads have gone on because the story went on ... her body was recovered. The Scarborough story died in the press, but there were plenty of scathing comments from FReepers at the time on the threads.
To: RightOnGOP; crystalk
He never called her, even after he was notified by her parents that she was missing and they were worried. His latest had been that he had NOT broken off their relationship, so how come no call to her pad, "Hi, it's me -- where are you?" Or, "Hey, I'm worried ... I haven't heard from you and your folks just called, they haven't either ...."
More circumstantial -- he didn't call her because HE KNEW SHE WASN'T THERE TO PICK UP THE PHONE.
To: Marysecretary
Somehow I can't see Dan Rather into kinky sex, but as I say, nothing would surprise me! Hey, if a goob like Marv Albert could be into it .... :)
To: sweetliberty
I think she's still running scared at what COULD still happen to her. I wouldn't go jogging if I were her, or walk down a dark street without a bodyguard. She's pretty brave in spite of the dangers.
To: soozla
That watch had nothing to do with Chandra (i.e. it wasn't a gift exchanged between the two of them) it was a watch given to Condit as a parting gift from another one of his girlfriends.... Beg to differ ... Chandra's friends confim that she wore a man's Tag Hauer watch. Condit is apparently just like Clinton, guys so cheap they make gifts of things they were given themselves.
To: Marysecretary
I kept thinking about one of Clinton's women, maybe it was Paula or Juanita, I forget, but I remember her saying that she had been really afraid for her life at one point but once she was always in the public eye she felt safe because it would be so obvious if something happened to her. I suspect Miss Smith is thinking similarly. And I think there is some wisdom in it.
To: MississippiDeltaDawg
i want to see his phone records (cell, home, office). computer records, bank records. where is his timeline. where were his aids? is he able to account for every minute of everyday around her disappearance. did he go to a doctor? who is that. if he was communicating with constituents that afternoon...who were they. unless he was murdering chandra or sitting in his office jerking off, why can't he account for time. it is all there...if he's innocent we will know, if he's guilty all bets are off.
To: CatoRenasci
However, IIRC, Condit and his wife were married very early, long before he went into politics. Hence, I don't think there was a premeditated pact on their part that he would cat around. Er ... only pols cat around??????
The Clintons married *long before he went into politics* as well, and it is well-documented that she knew the guy couldn't keep it zipped for her, married him anyway.
