Skakel Defense: Doubt Is Cast

Witnesses on the final day of the defense case in the Michael Skakel murder trial fixed the time of Martha Moxley's death at approximately 10 p.m. and placed Michael Skakel at a cousin's house 20 miles away at that same time.

But what would seem a triumphant end to a defense based on actual innocence was marred by imprecision - of both memory and science.

The story this morning in Greenwich Time was a little more negative on the defense. Knowing Mickey and the general sentiment, I'm surprised he didn't do more for the defense. My sense here is that all he'll argue is reasonable doubt. It could be enough, but maybe not. Even the brother isn't sure whether Mike left or not and the time of death isn't certain.

My read is that the judged thinks there's at least enough evidence that a jury could find guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and that there's at least a 50/50 chance Mikey will get nailed.

Things are definitely more interesting than I ever thought they would get with this case. Things should heat up with the rebuttal witnesses this week!

CT & Meek Bump!

If any one would like to be removed from my CT Bump list, please let me know and it will be done ASAP. Conversely, if you would like to be added the same holds true.

If I have the time line right everyone agrees Skakel was in moxley yard at 10:30 and the time of death is "about" 10:00. Doesn't that put Skakel there whether he watched Monty Python or not ? And what else where these boys doing besides watching Monty Python for 1/2 hour ? Sounds to me like a trip to do drugs, why else leave ?

I predict Michael Skakel will be found Not Guilty.

Too much circumstance, hearsay and weak memories and not near enough hard evidence to convict even a wealthy lout like Skakel for murder. Too bad but if I were a juror I would hold my nose and vote 'Not Guilty'.
The cops bungled it from the beginning and 28 years later that bungling will probably see it's fruition with an acquited, smiling Michael Skakel.

I agree. And I'm so happy to hear "KENNEDY cousin Michael Skakel" over and over again on the local radio and TV stations. It doesn't hurt to chip away at the "esteemed" Kennedy reputation, reinforcing the fact that yet another Kennedy is involved in some scandal. One local TV reporter even referred to him as "Michael Kennedy" the other night, and had to correct himself. LOL

I can only wonder what the reporting would be like if Skakel were a BUSH cousin.

Thanks for the ping.

"It isn't exactly the best-kept secret that Michael went out in the tree and masturbated," Sherman said after court Tuesday. "He did not tell [police]. No question about it. That's no great shock."

Really? Well I'm shocked. Who the heck climbs a tree and engages in self-gratification?

Skakel wanted to testify, Sherman said, but did not. "It was my call," Sherman said after court.

LOL - what BS. Since when do attorneys have that power.

I hope this guy gets what's coming to him.

And Skakel, too.

People have made fun of Dominic Dunne and scorned Mark Furman. But both of them made this case active again. Good for them.

I doubt whether Skakel will be found guilty, but everyone knows that he is guilty. He spent his whole life confessing the crime to everyone but the police.
