The people who run the political machine known as the Gun Control Movement, made up of such organizations as the Brady Campaign to Prevent Handgun Violence, the Violence Policy Center, and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, to name a few, are reasonable people. They see the world through their reasonable eyes. They dress well, they are the epitome of Corporate America. They are head and shoulders above the rest of the population and they know it. They have an idea, an ideal, if you will. They are idealists.
Gun Control has its own reality, made up from some strong-willed people who desire to shape, to mold, and if you will, control the future. Their stated goal is to level the playing field by artificially introducing limitations on human nature. Much like protective tariffs and free trade agreements, Gun Control seeks to manipulate a variable. The variable they seek to manipulate is firearms, eliminating them altogether from American society. A consequence of this manipulation is an effect on other variables, such as the behavior of human beings, crime, and public perception.
Or is it the other way around? In their goal to manipulate, or control, firearms, they must first manipulate public opinion, which they have, effectively putting the mainstream media in their camp so to speak. The people in high places who decide what is newsworthy and what is not, are in agreement with the Gun Control people. This is why only middle-class school shootings are national news, and the nightly murders in the projects where those who have guns illegally are killing the unarmed ones, where Gun Control is already working, are not.
So it is established that we the public will get only the news that those who know better than us (so they say) want us to have. This is blatant manipulation of public perception.
But the real reason why Gun Control will win is because the public doesnt care. They dont care enough to find out whats being done. Many members of the non-shooting public arent even aware that you cannot buy high-capacity magazines anymore, or why. They find out and sure, at the moment they are outraged, and they resolve to do lots of good political things. But somehow these never come to be and they go back to being complacent, beaten down by a you cant fight the system attitude.
Gun Control will win because people want to be told what to do. They dont want the responsibility, and they dont want the potential to be wrong, because thats hard on their self-esteem. So instead they do the just doing what Im told or Doing what Im supposed to or Doing the Right Thing, instead of thinking about the very actions they are being manipulated into.
Gun Control will win, because people have lost the ability to think for themselves. Those in the Violence Policy Centers use the least-capable of the public as examples, followed up by a rhetorical question such as would you LET this person own a gun?
Gun Control people are reasonable people asking reasonable questions, and their reasonable actions do not raise any alarm bells except with those whom they label as survivalist crazies waiting for the world to blow up. But behind all this reasonableness is a very real, very emotional need for control.
Gun Control people are control freaks. Inside their 20 pages of reasonableness they boil it down to Would you have guns in the hands of people you cannot control?
Thats it in a nutshell. Gun Control people want to be in power. They recognize the firearm as the ultimate personal power. They and they alone feel qualified in defining and deciding who should be armed and who should not. The fact that most of them come from parts of the country where bad things Just Dont Happen should be an indicator of their mindset.
Theirs is a simple mindset: Remove the Tool of the Problem, thus you Remove The Problem. This thinking is a fallacy, but it is a fallacy that requires thought and reason to see through. Thought and reason that most of the general public will not invest because honestly they do not care.
Those of us who care about our constitutional rights, who have the U.S. Constitution framed up on our wall along with a bright, well-kept U.S flag are in the minority.
War kills good people. Because only good people will sacrifice themselves for their principles, such as freedom. The weasels will dodge and conveniently be unavailable when it comes time for them to serve. So the good people die and all we have left are the weasels, and they breed.
So, with enough wars, soon we have a nation full of weasels, eating at us from the inside. Gun Control people are those weasels, and theyre winning. Because theyre reasonable, and those of us who want to think for ourselves, are not. Because those of us who are passionate, patriotic, and driven to uphold the ideals of Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Hamilton, Burr, Madison, Adams, and others who helped shape our unique government, are not considered reasonable. Of course, none of the men previously mentioned were considered reasonable either. The Kings men were reasonable. They did as they were told. They tried to maintain the status quo because the status quo benefitted them. Just as the status quo benefits the Gun Control people.
So Gun Control will win. Not because they are right, but because they appear reasonable. Their scare tactics are so effective, their rhetoric so insidious, that anyone who dares oppose either one appears to be unbalanced or unreasonable.
Human beings are by nature neither controllable nor reasonable. Those in Gun Control know this, but they do not see controlling people as the goal. They see the path of human manipulation as not a pathway to a door, but an idealistic journey leading ever towards the horizon. Like lemmings, they continue on toward the end, some of them fully realizing that there IS an end and it is suicide. But by the time our society reaches that end, those in Gun Control now will have already made their money off of the fear of the public, the activists will have been able to retire, and the fate of the nation will no longer be a care of theirs, because their unique status will afford them the protection they feel they need from the ignorant masses.
Gun Control people are good salesmen and debaters. But it does not make what they stand for right, safe, patriotic, or any good for our society.
But they will win.
Because society will let them.
And then we will all be murdered.
By We I mean all the good people left. Then the nation will be made up of only two kinds of people: weasels and slaves.
Which kind will you be?
I believe my point is that those of us who believe in the Second Amendment ARE doing what we can, but we are in the minority, and without the backing of the majority, we are destined to lose. My essay was not to document the behaviors of those of us fighting for freedom, but to inform us of the large mass of our society who Just Don't Care.
I don't have any good answers yet. That's why I post here. This is part of my brainstorming.
It's time to come up with a plan.

Say, that's pretty good! Is there a link to this anywhere? I'm pretty sure the mainstream media hasn't said a peep about it. Where can I find this for myself?
Maybe all is not lost, friends. But if it is as you say, Gun Control is on the ropes, then this is one enemy we cannot afford to leave alive. It may almost be Coup De Grace time.
Thank you. I needed some hope pretty badly, obviously.

So when they come for my guns would you recomend I use my 454 or my 357 or my 10 gauge or my 30-30?
I would recommend also the .30-30. If the .357 is a sidearm, you might want to arm a trusted assistant (preferably a handgun hunter) with the .454 so he can assist you in hitting out at the medium ranges while the .357 rides your hip. If your .357 is a lever-action carbine, then again, you should arm a trusted assistant, with the 10-guage between you for those sneakies who get by your effective wall of fire at distance.
Point here is: Don't Be Alone. We can win by knowing people like US all around us. Make friends. Take 'em to the range, get 'em hooked on shooting sports. It's not tough and the guy you take to the range today may be the guy watching your back tomorrow. The guns they may come for first may not be yours (because those of us here have played the game long enough, if you know what I mean), but may be someone you know.
United We Stand.
And now a quote from my personal hero, Benjamin Franklin: "Gentlemen, we must hang together, or we will surely all hang separately."
That Ben...he knew what time it was.

Only 5% of the gun owners are activists.
One of the gun groups uses every opportunity to criticize the NRA.
Too many gun owners follow the voting advice of their unions for their pocketbook.
The anti-gun people are the teachers in the public schools.
The gunranges and the hunting areas are being closed because no one cares.
The media and the power brokers are anti-gun.
Every time a nut shoots up a highway sign, someone driving by becomes an anti-gun voter.
Oh, the irony there is just too rich to pass up, since the gun control types say they only want police and military to be armed.
I'm about to let you in on a little secret as to who predominantly shoots up those highway signs. Don't be surprised or even shocked. Those who do it, of course, deny it, and will never, ever get caught.
Most highway signs on lonely roads...have you noticed that they're either hit with a buckshot blast or several medium-caliber handgun holes?
The ugly truth of this one is that most highway signs are shot by the cops themselves, usually out of boredom.
And they'll never get caught, because they are the ones who do the catching. Get it? Give us gun owners a little credit. Most of us have lived through 10 years of persecution and being labeled "gun-totin' redneck psychobilly bubbas" or some such. I know for a fact that I, nor would any shooter I know, willfully deface a public road sign.
The only reason I can even report as to who shoots up signs is because I saw it once. Once. On Angeles Forest Highway, back in 1989. At night. The rest of the details are omitted under my 5th amendment right. But suffice it to say that I was not, nor had I intended to be, there to shoot up road signs.
But at that moment it all fell into place for me, because like you, I wondered what flaming IDIOT of our firearm-owning brethren would hurt our cause like that, especially considering that at the time, Angeles Forest had TWO open shooting "areas". Not ranges...just unsupervised areas where people could go and shoot.
I saw that, and then I knew. Those who have no fear of being caught, those who are out there, day after day, or night after night, bored to tears, with a live firearm and a convenient target, and who don't have to worry anytime soon about being disarmed by public opinion.
Oh, the irony! That much of our woes come from people whom the gun control movement have branded as "worthy"!
I just had to mention that.

Yeas ago, I was involved in a business deal with Bulgaria, at that time a communist block country. Some of their technical people came to the US and in those days no one did that unless they had a political officer in a suit with them to "translate."
We were blasting through rural Indiana in a van, talking through the translator. Things were going fine. Finally, after passing a series of shot-up signs, one of the technical types asks a question and the translator said, "What happened to all those signs?" I said, "People shoot at them with guns. Everyone has a gun here and we shoot ths signs to proclaim our freedom and show the police who is in charge. I'm sure it's different in your country where people show more respect." Silence. He did not translate the answer. Later, I could not believe I said that but I was glad I did.
I have a "deer" lease that really is an open area where we shoot. The only deer I have ever seen were the two that were dumped by the gate after someone took the antlers. Every once in a while someone sneaks in and shoots the trees, desks, shooting benches and anything that can be destroyed. I doubt that the percentage of people who do this are one in five hundred but the evidence lasts a lot longer after they're long gone.
And you can bet that the idiots that do that couldn't care less about defending their rights. It will be a game for them for as long as they can destroy things and when they get bored, they'll sell their guns and wreck another sport.
That's profound.
I agree the gun control lobby is on the wain now. They could still come back. Let's finish them off for good. Keep pounding gun rights into your congresscritter. Get the NRA membership up to ten million. Let the media assholes know that gun rights are the most important rights in America because they protect all the other rights. Let those arrogant elite bastards in washington dc know that if you mess with gun rights you will be out by a recall election or at the end of your term.
Try this sometime when you talk to an "anti-gunner". They expose their true agenda, then you just have to tell them that a government, where only the police have guns is a Police State and they support a Police State. So much for caring and compassion and progressivism.
Just last week John Ashcroft filed with the United States Supreme Court that the official position of the United States is that the Second Amendment acknowledges individual personal rights.
Say, that's pretty good! Is there a link to this anywhere? I'm pretty sure the mainstream media hasn't said a peep about it. Where can I find this for myself?
I misspoke, it was actually Ted Olson, the Solicitor General who works for Ashcroft who filed this opinion with the SCOTUS.
Surprisingly this was in the mainstream media quite a bit, the gun grabbers really had their panties in a wad over it.
I don't have a link to it, you might try searching FR on Ashcroft/Ted Olson. I am pretty sure I read a piece from Mary McGrory sp? about this. I suspect that NRA Live has a piece on this in their archives.
Ashcroft/Olson filed this on two cases that have been appealed to the SCOTUS, Emerson was one case, I don't remember the second case.

LOL Then I'll just hire my wife as an armed guard to protect me, my offices, and my factories. And my wife will hire me as an armed guard to protect her, her offices, and her factories.
Amazing how confused some people can be.
.......I think times are a changin', really, I do.
Well FR used to be full of people who were wise to the liberal globalist games. Not to many people here today that I can say that about however. Even the big leader puts all his trust in a party
Unfortunately, this is correct. FR is now very 'big tent' and caters primarily to GOP statist stooges. I was crushed when our host told me that he would vote for a GOP, no matter what. This is what passes as 'conservatism' in this day and age.
Unless we purge the demons in our own 'party' the GOP will not take us to where we need to be.
Read 1984 and see why this will not work. Devotion to a party, rather than principle, is very, very, very dangerous. The aims of a 'party' is to gain and retain power - that is all. This could not be better demonstrated than by the modern GOP.
