Well, if you're considering New England for a vacation, head for New Hampshire. Live free or die!

"head for New Hampshire. Live free or die!"

My brother lives in NH. I believe that's the state where it is illegal to drive a pickup truck with rust on it. If only the laws lived up to the license plates.

It's pretty dumb to choose your vacations based on local politics. Unless you relish taking your vacations in Alabama for the rest of your life. But wait, even Alabama has some Democrats in office. Should we boycott that state too? Decisions, decisions.

I go to Smuggler's Notch a lot for vacation, which is way up near Burlington. We go to breakfast in one of the local diners and it is as far from politically correct as you can get. Heads of bears and deer are mounted on the walls. The menu features ham, bacon and eggs. Ask for "non-dairy creamer" or a "vegetarian menu" and you will likely get a scornful stare. Many of the pickup trucks in the parking lot sport NRA stickers and gun racks.

Point is, if you avoid a place because there are a few liberals around, then the liberals have won.

What wrong with avoiding certain places because of local politics? For instance, why would one ever want to visit (and spend money in) San Francisco?

Also, can't this theory be extended to movies, and Hollywood? Do you support (attend) movies featuring all of these biased/vicious Hollywood liberals (Alec Baldwin, Julia Roberts, Susan Sarandon) when they bash Bush/Republicans/conservatives at any opportunity?

Furthermore, do you buy the music of outspoken America-bashing liberals (name a few)? Just wondering....

You are not talking about a specific location in Vermont (such as Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory), you are talking about the whole freaking state. There are some good, decent Americans up in Vermont and we got some Freepers up there as well. I'm not going to write off an entire group of my fellow Americans on account of a few bad apples.

As for music, I don't run a political litmus test on the performers of every record I buy. But if somebody is especially obnoxious in the public eye about their liberal politics, I will go out of my way not to buy their records. Barbara Streisand is a good example.

Actually, guys...if you stay out of the Burlington area (Chittenden County) I believe you will find the real Vahmontahs who run small inns, B&Bs, campgrounds, cottages on lakes and ponds, etc and who can't stand the likes of the LeahySandersJeffords dung heap.

Check out Vermont

Cool down a bit, Sam, but not by buying Ben&Jerry's ice cream. Good point, because that is one of the places that should be avoided.

You do make a good point about not ALL people/places being offensive, but until one knows for sure (i.e. has good advice), my point is that you can make a principled statement by not frequenting certain/many places. You and I would not be having this conversation, if something negative had not been intimated about Vermont in particular. When Senator Sam Brownback denounces being a Republican and declares as an Independent, then my attention will turn to Kansas, and reasons not to go there, etc.

If I were planning to visit Vermont, maybe I would post here and solicit the local freepers' input about some destinations, both to visit and to avoid.

I don't think that we are saying terribly different things, except that I might be a bit more strident in boycotting places/music/movies, once a liberal bias has been demonstrated. Alec Baldwin, Julia Roberts, Barbara Streisand, Madonna are good examples of obnoxious.

I have nothing against "boycotts" per se. I just like to see them made more specific. For example, I also have Hollywood stars that I cannot tolerate seeing in a movie. Richard Gere and Whoopi Goldberg are two examples. If they star in a movie and I am aware of it, I simply will not see it. But I will not make the blanket statement that I will not see movies at all on account of it.

I do not think we should boycott the entire state of Vermont over Jefford's inexcusable and un-American action (handing over control of the senate to the Democrats). To prevent this from occuring in the future, I'd like to see an amendment to the Constitution prohibiting federal office-holders from changing their parties after their election. If a Republican wishes to become a Democrat or an Independent (or vice-versa), their switch should not be made official until they have stood for election so that the people may decide whether or not they want him to stay in office under the banner of his new political party.

Good grief! How about logging off and going out and seeing the world for a change. San Francisco is certainly stomach-turning as far as politics are concerned, but is one of the most beautiful and interesting places on earth.

If your logic were to be followed, come to Southern Denton County, TX where almost 80% of the residents are Republican. You can take in the scenic vistas of Lake Lewisville on the ACE beach and the I-35E bridge. Pitch a tent in the 95F heat and sleep with the fire ants. You can stroll on our sidewalk-less streets and play "dodge-the-soccer-mom-in-the-Suburban." Take in a good meal at one of the hundreds of nation-wide chain restaurants.

Perhaps there is more to life than politics. Perhaps you could look beyond some stupid activist and enjoy life, or you could allow every malcontent to ruin your life.
