PAPER: Rock Creek Park Predator Interviewed by Police Investigating Levy Death Thu May 23 2002 12:52:01 ET
D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officials investigating the death of Washington intern Chandra Levy have interviewed a man serving a 10-year prison sentence for attacking two women in Rock Creek Park last year, ROLL CALL DAILY is planning to report on Thursday.

D.C. Metro Police investigators have "talked to" Ingmar Guandeque, who was arrested in July 2001 after attacking two females (one in May and one in July) who were jogging along the Broad Branch trail in Rock Creek Park. Levy's decomposed body was found Wednesday along the Broad Branch trail in a heavily wooded area.
A second official close to the Levy investigation said that while Guandeque was interviewed after Levy's disappearance last year, investigators are now taking a closer look at him since the intern's body was discovered.
"Clearly there are some coincidences and links -- just because of the proximity of where he [committed his crimes]," said a source close to the investigation.
ROLL CALL's Amy Keller reports: Guandeque, who lived on the 1400 block of Somerset Place Northwest, was arrested last summer and sentenced in February 2002 to two concurrent terms of 10 years' imprisonment for a pair of assaults of female joggers in the Broad Branch section of the park.
The first attack occurred in mid-May 2001, at 6:30 p.m., about two weeks after Levy disappeared. In that case, Guandeque came upon an unnamed female jogger, attacking her from behind while brandishing a knife.
According to a press relea
Thanks -- I didn't know about the frequent flyer miles. According to the timeline linked at #87 above, Condit told Connie Chung that Chandra told him on April 28 that she was going to take the train home. Obviously not true, or she would have told her parents when she e-mailed them on May 1.
Good question. Guess she had no further need for it.
Isn't she the one who bought the watch????
Agreed. The only way that a random killing (e.g. Condit not involved in some way) makes sense to me is if the death occurred "accidently" during an assault.
"Accidently" = head striking paved walkway, etc.
Also, at the time Chandra disappeared, Condit had no idea that anybody knew that they had been having an affair. He always made her leave her ID at home and he often wore a disguise, (dark glasses, baseball cap), when they went out, (which was rare). Anne Marie Smith verified this same behavior pattern. Condit always told her that if she told ANYBODY about him that it would be over, period! But Chandra slipped and told Linda Zamsky his name one day accidentaly while describing "her guy", and how his staff answered his phone. She said his name. Afterward she told her aunt lots of other stuff. She also told her friend Sven, (and before anybody gets started on Sven, he passed a lie detector test and has produced proof - credit card receipts, etc. that show he was in Europe at the time she disappeared), about Condit and said that she was determined to make it work. She wasn't going to let another one get away and she was thinking of confronting the situation and forcing his hand. Sven didn't give her any advice according to him, but just listened to her and told her to be careful.
One who is capable of, "compartmentalization"...
So if the body was dumped, it likely happened from above. Perhaps a car goes up there late at night, parks off of Glover or the side road, then a couple takes the body and dumps it when they don't hear anything coming. Even if a patrol car comes upon the car while they are away(since the park is closed at night), the couple could emerge and pretend to be adventorous lovers(and the park seems notorious for George Michael type encounters) with little risk of too much inquisition(why would a park cop want to risk a harrassment of gays charge?).
OTOH, she could have been walking the trail(she had free time, several decisions to make, perhaps doing some exploring in her final days in DC to relax and do some contemplation), when confronted by an attacker, made the mistake of running into the woods to the west of the trail, and was cornered caught on the edge of the dropoff. Or perhaps the attacker drug her there(about 50-70 feet below the trail, 200 yards away) and murdered her.
Or perhaps she went to meet Gary or an associate, say at the Nature Center(the loop and side road just off of Glover). He/she/it/them then suggested they take a walk, and headed down the trail. Then a suggestion(lots of possibilities here) that they leave the trail and head west, and at or near the final resting place she is murder and then dumped. Perhaps Gary in a heat of the moment rage(which I tend to doubt, too hard to not show some visible sign that something is wrong later in the day if it was unplanned), or more likely someone doing his dirty work.

Yes, intersting. She was assaulted/killed in another area and the body was hidden here. In broad daylight, no witnesses? Hmmmmm. Not likely. The "serial assaulter" theory doesn't hold up. Much more likely that an arrangement had been planned and executed, and the body was dumped where it was found this week. Possibly after the infamous "search" of the park, wherein the illustrious DC "police" performed their best search effort, which revealed nothing (to be expected).
Most of what's being posted ignores all Chandra's and Condit's behavior prior to and after the disappearance. Most of it just looks at the park location and the predator's history. Once you factor in all the behavior of all the parties, it is very unlikely that Condit was not involved in her death.
I agree.
Shouldn't be hard to narrow the list of his female staffers during the time period she referenced.
At first, I thought you were talking about Condit.
