PAPER: Rock Creek Park Predator Interviewed by Police Investigating Levy Death Thu May 23 2002 12:52:01 ET

D.C. Metropolitan Police Department officials investigating the death of Washington intern Chandra Levy have interviewed a man serving a 10-year prison sentence for attacking two women in Rock Creek Park last year, ROLL CALL DAILY is planning to report on Thursday.

MORE

D.C. Metro Police investigators have "talked to" Ingmar Guandeque, who was arrested in July 2001 after attacking two females (one in May and one in July) who were jogging along the Broad Branch trail in Rock Creek Park. Levy's decomposed body was found Wednesday along the Broad Branch trail in a heavily wooded area.

A second official close to the Levy investigation said that while Guandeque was interviewed after Levy's disappearance last year, investigators are now taking a closer look at him since the intern's body was discovered.

"Clearly there are some coincidences and links -- just because of the proximity of where he [committed his crimes]," said a source close to the investigation.

ROLL CALL's Amy Keller reports: Guandeque, who lived on the 1400 block of Somerset Place Northwest, was arrested last summer and sentenced in February 2002 to two concurrent terms of 10 years' imprisonment for a pair of assaults of female joggers in the Broad Branch section of the park.

The first attack occurred in mid-May 2001, at 6:30 p.m., about two weeks after Levy disappeared. In that case, Guandeque came upon an unnamed female jogger, attacking her from behind while brandishing a knife.

First, jogging bras are standard equipment when you hate bras and like comfort, not only joggers wear them. Two, no female jogger jogs with a backpack. Third, this guy looks good for the crime except for the backpack, maybe she was walking not jogging.

Fourth, why wouldn't she have put her cell phone in the backpack since she had been trying to get hold of Condit frantically all day?

Totally agree. I believe she met, or at least talked to, Condit that day. I think he probably met up wtih her. He knew roughly where she was and what her plans were, minimum.

HOwever, I also think she was murdered by mr. G, who assaulted the other women near the same place, and shortly after Chandra was murdered there.

He chose the wrong path, to put it in the most gentle way, about what to do when it was clear she was gone. He hid and obfuscated and denied. And lost everything because of his choice.

I actually think he would have survived politically if he had chosen the honorable path, stuck his neck out and taken his lumps.

Illegal immigrant, or a cabbie with something to hide, previous runins with the law, etc.

Possible, but couldn't they find a way to anonymously tell the police? Silent observer? But still possible.

Did the dogs pick up her scent again at the park?? Anyone know?

Yes Tom:

When did GW know about Guandeque?

Bush should have known. This is an outrage!

I guess that it is time for the both of us to stop voting for him.

Seriously, I hear the std demented DUers are claiming that Bush had Chandra's body on ice and Carl Rove got it out of his White House freezer and deposited it in the park to distract from what he knew or didn't know about 9/11.

The other reality is that the biggest liar in the world, Shorty Mullah Da$$hole is now saying that he never said that Bush knew about 9/11 before hand. This midget POS is having a real hard time with his words in today's world. He says something it gets on the internet and talk radio, and he has to extract his cloven hoof from his orifice in a day or two.

You're right. So what link was there? What pattern was there?

Thank you, Howlin, but I decline to be in charge of all the Geragos information, since the sight of him for more than 5 minutes makes me what to hurl. We have to go in shifts to follow him up...

Not precisely, for his apt at the Tryst on 4th fl. is about 2 miles north of the White House, heart of Adams/Morgan area. The Klingle Mansion is about a mile west of that, on the west side of Rock Creek.

The body was found a good mile, maybe a bit more, N and some W of the Mansion, say a third-mile west of the main creek and up on the bluff where the Broad Branch Rd runs, not near any trails within the park itself...on the edge of the park in a thicket.

Still, with transport, even a bicycle, he could have done what you say.

That April 30 was a nice spring day. But May 1 was a gorgeous, incredible, life-enhancing day that drew all DC out to revel, if not chained to a desk.

But why the Klingle Mansion? It is not very interesting to look at, and the inside is used for storage and park offices, only occasionally is it open to the public for events, and it was locked and closed the entirely of Tuesday May 1.

Exactly. No way it was just her independent destination. It was the Klingle Mansion because that's where she agreed to meet Condit. It's sort of secluded, closed on the fateful day, in short a perfect meeting place for furtive lovers. She wore comfortable sports/jogging clothes there because she was comfortable with him and maybe wanted to get in a short jog before or after they met.

She was looking forward to it and/or didn't know exactly where it is, so she looked it up on the Internet. That fortuity is the blue Gap dress of this case.

Un problemo: neither one of them were found in May.

Geragos: Ah, oops, my "investigators" must have got it wrong.

LOL. Whatever you say Markie, you low-rent sleazeball.

Well, we know he has a bike.

BTW, I just saw somebody from the DC police saying where she was found was NOT near a jogging trail.

So, a day that might bring a lot of people to the park? Even for an after dinner walk say about 6:30pm? It just seems odd that she is grabbed and or murdered in broad daylight in a public park, and especially if it was a glorious day in which you would expect droves of people.
