DOUGLAS -- Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor was flagged yesterday.
Taylor, in town to speak to more than 400 participants in a regional Senior Olympics, was greeted by at least 30 former state flags with their Confederate battle emblems in a show of resentment over a lack of a public vote in adopting a new flag last year.

Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor said he was proud of the new flag. "We had just reached a point where the old flag was holding us back from an economic standpoint," he added. Sell-out your heritage for money, it's the American way.

Governor Roy Barnes has been all over the TV in Georgia in campaign (already!) commercials touting his achievements in education, such as lowering class size.
Strangely, he has yet to run any campaign commercials touting his changing of the state flag. I wonder why.

I'm a Georgian and I don't give a DAMN what the flag looks like. For all I care we could fly the pirate Jolly Roger flag for the state flag.
One thing I DO give a damn about is the fact that the Georgia income tax is around 5% and that I had about $4000 yanked from me last year as a result of that income tax.

While not mentioned in this article, as best I could tell, the Georgia GOP needs to drop the flag issue. As long as they hold onto the flag issue as one of their main focuses, which they are doing, they will remain a minority party in Georgia of vast proportions.

EXACTO... FLAG ISSUE is a trivial pursuit. Corruption and ethics issues are being ignored. Call in the FEDS!

...maligns the memory of Confederate heroes. "Confederate" traitors, you mean.
I think all you neo-Confederates need to go join up with ObL's boys. You ought to become an auxiliary of al-Qaeda, so you can continue the fight against the U.S. that your great-great-great-grandpappies started.
Then, you can introduce new legislation to reinstate slavery.
The South will then rise again.

Right on, bro. But in the meantime, those who can't actually THINK about issues and what really counts, get to parade around with that stupid scrap of cloth they call a "confederate" flag (which was actually a battle flag anyway, because the official flag of the rebellion, the stars and bars, was to similar to Old Glory, and kept receiving friendly fire).
If these people would actually put this much effort into storming that capital for tax reduction, just think what might be accomplished.
Instead, they want to marginalize themselves and at the same time take TRUE conservatives down with them.
Buncha ****-heads.

"The Civil War has been fought, it's over and they lost. It's time to get together," Roper said."Only an athiest contends that victory is a criterion of right...." -- Dabney.
When Michael Crane is governor of the fine state of Georgia, the people will decide in fair referendum which is the appropriate banner to fly over the red clay of my ancestors.

Is that all of them, or just the ones who didn't commit treason?
To: Vladiator
Is that all of them, or just the ones who didn't commit treason? All the "Lost Cause" apologists have to use "1984-speak" that makes treason into patriotism. So expect some answers in that vein.

Is that all of them, or just the ones who didn't commit treason? That includes all the people of Georgia, those who fly the stars and stripes in honor of those who fought for it in foreign wars (as I do), to those who also choose to fly the Dixie flags in honor of their brave ancestors (as I do).
Southerners take no back seat to anyone in defending their country at any time in history, including when they fought and sacrificed for the Betsy Ross banner --- twice.
To: varina davis
If Michael Crane is going to run on 'The Flag' he will never be Governor.

I understand what your saying but the Old flag issue should have been voted on by the people before they changed it. We were never given that opportunity so quite frankly we resent how it went down. On the other hand if the good people of Georgia decided that it needed to be changed, most of us would accept that without a fight. But when Dictator Barnes just decides for us, well that leaves a lot of resentment towards this @sshole!
To: HELLRAISER II
There is no doubt that Barnes acted as a dictator and the people of Georgia should have voted on the matter. Just as the people of Mississippi did.
I do not live in Georgia, but from what I gather the Georgia GOP has the flag as their number one issue (or right near the top). And with that being the case, they will remain a small minority in elected office.

I'll give ya this Walt, at least your consistent in your hate of the Confederacy and it's flag. Just for the record We're just as Patriotic as you or anybody else on Free Republic, I know that I pledge allegience to Old Glory just as freely and just as sincerely as you do. It has nothing to do with my allegience to the USA, it's simply my/our way of keeping in touch with our Heritage & upbringing. How come you don't give anybody else any $hit over their State Flag?
To: HELLRAISER II; WhiskeyPapa
How come you don't give anybody else any $hit over their State Flag? Like Hawaii's use of the Union Jack. They are still loyal to the crown!
To: Illbay
You know people like you D**khead are the reason there is a problem with our state flag. To you you see it as a racist symbol & want for Slavery, I don't want slavery. I will even admit that the Confederacy did some bad immoral things, no more than the USA did though. That's right when we first got slaves we were'nt the Confederacy, they were Americans that Slavery was dictated by our own US govt. Why would you want to start calling people names when you obviously don't have any idea how the average Southernor feels about our heritage & our philosophy. Are we all proud of what went down in reference to Slavery, NO! Can we change it? No! Are we going to give up everything about our heritage because you don't like it? Hell NO! To you we're all a bunch of White robe wearing rednecks that like to hang blacks from a tree, am I right. Now ask yourself who's being prejudice about the situation, you or me.
