BELLEVUE, Wash., May 17 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt are practicing "selective outrage" over reports that the White House had been alerted to possible terrorist threats prior to Sept. 11 because they are deliberately ignoring identical situations in 1995 and 1999, in which the Clinton Administration received more detailed warnings, and apparently did nothing, according reports by CNN and the Associated Press.
Alan Gottlieb and Dave Workman, co-authors of Double Trouble: Daschle & Gephardt -- Capitol Hill Bullies published by Merril Press said the current conduct of Capitol Hill's leading Democrats is "despicable" and "contemptible," and right out of the Daschle-Gephardt partisan playbook.
"Based on these reports, Tom Daschle's selective outrage is despicable," Gottlieb declared. "Daschle should be demanding to know why the Clinton Administration, the Justice Department under Janet Reno and the FBI under Louis Freeh failed to act, years before the Sept. 11 attack.
"But," Gottlieb continued, "we can't expect Daschle to direct the same level of anger at Bill Clinton. Four years ago, Daschle worked furiously to prevent Clinton's impeachment by the House of Representatives, and then to prevent his conviction in the Senate.
Daschle blocked witnesses from testifying, and erected other roadblocks to protect his personal friend, Bill Clinton. This boils down to Democrat Daschle protecting Democrat Clinton while attacking Republican George Bush. This kind of political grandstanding is contemptible."
Added Workman, "Gephardt wants to know who knew what and when, and what was done about the terrorist threat last year. He should be asking what was done about it in 1995 and again in 1999 when Bill Clinton was in charge. The Clinton Administration spent eight years dismantling our military, law enforcement, intelligence and national security capabilities. Daschle and Gephardt know it, yet here they are, pointing fingers of blame at George Bush, and trying desperately to capitalize on the terrorist attack for political gain, for themselves and their party."
That this controversy follows closely on the heels of Democrat indignation over the sale of photographs of President Bush making telephone calls from Air Force One on 9/11 smacks of world-class hypocrisy, Gottlieb and Workman noted.
"For Democrats to complain about the sale of that photo pales in comparison to Tom Daschle's use of Mount Rushmore for a $5,000-a-pop fund raiser for lobbyists and contributors in September 1998," Workman said. "We wrote about that episode in Double Trouble, along with Gephardt's creative real estate financing, and lots of other questionable activities.
"But this 'outrage' over Bush's alleged prior knowledge of the 9/11 attacks," Workman continued, "is rapidly falling apart, thanks to CNN and the Associated Press."
Double Trouble tracks the careers of Daschle and Gephardt, examining their careers as they rose to positions of leadership in Congress, and how their activities were reported by an all-too-often partisan Capitol press corps.

I'm disappointed.
Sure you are. So am I. But Daschle used Mount Rushmore to entertain lobbyists...how come I never heard that on the news?

Dittos.
Let's pray South Dakota has wised up by then.
LOL!!! These two??
Take a look up and down the entire Democrat lineup. Start with Sheila Jackson Lee who is still trying to spot the American flag that our astronauts left on Mars. Then proceed to Barbara Boxer, Patty Murray, and Patrick Kennedy. Their collective IQs are less than 100. And they are just the first ones to come to mind. Think about it: unless you are a core Democrat constituent (parasite) who wants big government to confiscate from your neighbors in order to provide you with "free stuff", how stupid do you have to be to be a Democrat?
hehehe...well said.
