AMSTERDAM, Netherlands --The Netherlands' dramatic and sudden electoral switch from liberal-socialism to conservatism is being finalised as the country's victorious Christian Democrats (CDA) begin forming a government.
The ruling centre-left Labour party suffered its worst defeat since World War II in a momentous election dominated by voter concerns over crime, immigration and public services.

This is amazing. The voters shouted out their concerns about immagration, crime and EU. But the professional politicians are talking about euthenasia, gay marriage and pot smoking! I don't think they REALLY heard the voters' message.

I don't think they REALLY heard the voters' message.I'm sure they don't WANT to hear it!

The result shattered the hopes of the incumbent Labour party which, until the murder on May 6 of the right-wing political leader Pim Fortuyn, had looked set to be re-elected. I wonder if there are any Vince Foster type conspiracy theorists in the Netherlands.

Probaly so and with good reason, I'd say. The leftist EU lovers whipped up public hatred against Pym and then a nutcase, PETA-type leftist gunned him down. Was it all just a big cowinky-dink? I think not.

Knighthawk left because some freepers were buying this leftist smearjob "Pim was a pedophile article" I'm really pissed at them knighthawk was a good guy.

Me, too. I'm hoping he's still lurking, and will come back later. I just don't understand why he's left, when if you look back over the thread in controversy, many freepers were calling the article a smear job, that it was quoting things out of context, that the Scotsman could be liable for damages, etc. By no means was everyone on that thread agreeing with the article.

"The result extended to the usually-liberal Netherlands the Europe-wide trend that has seen left-leaning governments tumble in Italy, Denmark, Portugal and France over the last year.""
But it all started in the USA!
Overall - this is probably the most hopeful sentence I have read on the internet in a long time.
The demise of socialism worldwide would be the greatest advance in the liberation of oppressed people since the end of the Cold War.
During the Clinton years - the socialists/communists the world over advanced. Already during the short time of President Bush's Presidency, the left is losing all over the world. Let the trend continue! Onward to freedom!!!!

You don't think big enough. The end result of Fortuyn's murder was a win for the right-wing, a win that was considered impossible BEFORE his assassination. Cowinky-dink indeed.

WHAT? Geeze, I can't believe they did that. I really liked knighthawk. He had insightful posts from a conservative european perspective. I hope he's lurking as well!

When did Knighthawk leave, he was actively posting last night?
I certainly do not approve of Fortuyn's social habits, but the man was foully murdered. And before he was foully murdered, he performed a yeoman's service for the forces of more traditional values, by getting millions of Europeans to openly discuss problems and concerns that the "politically correct," manipulators of Western Societies had managed to suppress for a number of years. For that we should all be profoundly grateful.
When I was in Paris, in early April, I met a Conservative Hollander who was not a Fortuyn supporter--probably more Conservative than Fortuyn--but expressed great optimism for what Fortuyn had gotten started. Some people on our side need to learn when to let up on certain aspects of the fight. Otherwise, we end up devouring our friends. You cannot win that way. (I am not suggesting that anyone endorse something the media loves to call "the gay lifestyle." But when someone who is unfortunately into that does us a favor, it is stupid to not say thank you! As I said the other day, may he rest in peace!)

Were those quotes by Pim fabricated? I must admit that I have not delved too deeply into that.
I like knighthawk. I wonder if he's a Rutger Hauer fan.

Knighthawk seemed to indicvate they were my 1st instinct upon reading that was the liberal press was saying that now that Pim was dead because they didn't have the guts to smear him with that when he was alive.
