Christian school expels nude dancer's daughter

So, God wants an innocent little kid to suffer because of her mother and because of Eve? What about the little girl?

That's a hard one. On the surface of things, I would say that the principal has no business looking at your son's yearbook. However, maybe he knows something you all don't and needs confirmation. My daughter goes to a Christian school and I don't like everything either. Sometimes I wish they got a little more involved in kids lives b/c there are some kids there that are tettering on the edge of real problems. Unfortunately, one is my daughter's best friend. What I tell her is that although we don't like everything we are told to do, that's life and she is always going to always have some authority figure and she needs to learn to obey even when she doesn't agree. However, there are times when the authority figure is wrong and that's when we need to question their authority, but pick those fights VERY carefully and be certain you're in the right. Without knowing more, I'd probably let the principal see the yearbook and let him know as a parent how I felt about the intrusion. If there's more to it, then he will probably let you know. If not, you've got a decision to make about whether or not to keep your son at the school.

The girl is at a disadvantage-- she'll only understand what her mother tells her about the whole incident. This isn't about a silly haircut, either. Let the punishment fit the crime. The woman will probably get a raise,-- maybe a call from Playboy-- she's going to use her daughter's misfortune to make some money. The woman's an EXHIBITIONIST, pure and simple.

Certainly, the objective is to not sin....but I don't see the church or a human with the ability to change our behaviour....that comes from our walk and talk with God. He will bring the changes in our life. Should I feel moved of God to not wear makeup, you can believe the drawer of it will depart. Ditto dancing, making music, singing, drinking coffee, whatever.

God is totally responsible for my giving up smoking after 40 something years--in exactly 1 week, it will have been 1 year since he absolutely took away in an instant the desire or craving to smoke. It was HIM...because I had tried many times in the past to quit and failed.....without HIM, I would have failed yet again. :)

That's similar to what I am doing. mrs. parsifal and son signed a "contract" with the school but I didn't. Me and the school have no privity of contract. I refuse to return the book to either son or the mrs. Therefore, they are not in breach. If school expels, I think they can be sued. Every contract, even those with private church schools, have an imputed element of good faith. I doubt school can sucessfully breach because of a third party's (me)actions. parsy.

My son got suspended for one day for something that he wrote in somebody else's book. If they get his book, some of those kids will get suspended or expelled. It is far worse stuff than what sonofparsifal wrote.

What really irritated me was that the principal browbeat the heck of of him over whether he was a Christian or not. Ny son replied that he was not real sure at this point. The principal then asked him why he was going to school there and why he was "corrupting" others. Wife and son both have been begging me not to go up there and cuss crap out of that SOB. From what I know, some of the little goody-two shoes kids up there are smoking dope, having sex, drinking, etc. and then seeing who can pray the loudest in chapel. Corrupting them my a**!

I have told kids for years not to let their opinion of Christianity be detrimentally affected by the school staff. IMHO, religious schools are responsible for turning large numbers of kids off religion. I guess the stupid b**tards never read any of the stumbling blocks stuff in the Bible. Satan, no doubt, loves church schools. parsy the really irritated about this whole thing.

The difference is that this is a private school. If this had happened in a public school, I would've been right there with you in outrage. But a private school has the right to set their own standards and enforce them as they see fit. I don't necessarily agree with their standards, but they were set and known, and the mother violated them.

Maybe the school could've shown more tact. I heard that they did try to counsel the mother and help her find a different job...but...well...strippers make a lot of money. So, the mom made her choice and the school made its choice. IMO, there was no injustice here: the school was within its rights.

My thoughts too. I cannot condemn the mother either. She's working, it's better than welfare.

Does not sound like the kind of school you might want your son in. Fortunately, my daughter goes to a good Christian School, although even there, I do not agree with all that comes down. When my daughter was stalked by another student, they took immediate action to protect her and I couldn't have been happier. But I know what you mean. Some schools do not seem to realize that the legalism of their policies turn kids off to the freedom that Christ brings. My daughter is considering going to Bob Jones Univeristy, not because anyone wants her to go there, but because they offer what she wants a fraction of the price that we've been able to find elsewhere. I'm very concerned about that they will do to her faith. If your son is not certain whether or not he's a Christian, that principal and those teachers ought to be loving him and on their knees praying for him. I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles at this school. They're not all like this!

Actually, I happen to agree with you re: what likely would be upheld as the private's schools legal position.

My mention of "Harper Valley," as you probably know, was in reference to an old Country and Western song about the hypocritical members of a public shcool PTA and their disparagement of a mother regarding her fitness as a parent.

Whether the private school in question is within its legal rights to expel a schoolgirl on the basis of her mother's occupation is a matter for the courts to decide.

That said, I think that the actions of the administrators of the school are abominable, hypocritical, and contrary to the teachings of Jesus Christ, whom they (as do I) worship as the Savior and the Son of God.

Perhaps the most pernicious result of this sad episode would the destruction of the girl's faith and her relationship with God as she comprehends the treatment she and her mother received at the hands of Pastor Rick Cole and others claiming to be servants of the Lord...

What part of when Jesus forgave the whore and said GO IN SIN NO MORE did Ms. Silvas not understand? Forgiveness did not come without some part of responsibility on the part of the forgiven to not keep sinning. I have to support the schools decision. If it had no standard for enrollment for both parents and children it would be a public school. I notice she said part of the reason she took the job was to pay for tuition, I dare say it would be better for her child to be in a public school with a good example of a mother, than in a Christian school with a mother who directly defies God's word daily. My guess is this is the "next level" for Ms. Silvas. I am willing to bet my bottom dollar this has been an ongoing discussion of she must change her lifestyle or face consequences and now it looks sudden but is in fact not.

That is the one concession I give as well although I agree with the school's decision. They should have waited until the school year was over and told the mother that she was not welcome back next year.

That is a shame then, this is exactly the type of single mother we should be helping as a society. I've always felt widows should be the exception, but I can't help wondering even so, where are both families in helping her so she doesn't have to strip?
