[history]
The couple, whose names were not immediately released, were killed instantly, authorities said. But Karen Dunn, a spokesman for Amtrak, described the couple as a 22-year-old white woman and a 27-year-old white man.
"They were holding hands and they walked into the path of the train," she said. "(The engineer) didn't have much time to react."

There have been a lot of threads about train wrecks lately. Unless these two are Friends of Bill, I don't think there's a conspiracy.
And please. If you've just got to kill yourself, please, please do not inconvenience commuters. I just don't understand this desire for attention.

Somebody told me the other day that with the cleaner burning gasolines, the car in the garage method may no longer be very effective. I have no idea if this is true.

Good riddance to them, but it's a rotten thing to do to the engineer who now has to deal with those images.

If you've just got to kill yourself, please, please do not inconvenience commuters. I'll second that. Last week my commute to NYC was delayed by the lady in Orange taking a "short cut" across elevated tracks.
The reporter missed another fatality that occurred in Morristown on Saturday. How do I know? Because I got on an eastbound train in Summit and when we reached Millburn, the police had the train halted because they believed that particular train was the one that hit someone who died. NJ Transit brought a new (shorter train) train for us to take to NYC, but no sooner had we started loading onto the new train than the cops cleared the other train to go to NYC. Sheesh!

Not only that, but this is a TERRIBLE thing to do to the engineer. My previous downstairs neighbor is an engineer for Southern Pacific - he is VERY sensitive to this kind of stuff ... even pennies on the track. What an incredibly horrible thing for them to do - selfish, self-absorbed and cruel. If they had to kill themselves ... don't drag others into it. I'm praying for that engineer's peace of mind.

Whenever you contemplate suicide, think of all the people who need to go first....the thought will pass.

Here's a diabolical thought. What if we made a public appeal to all those American citizens who were seriously contemplating suicide? We would put it to them like this: Why let your death be meaningless? Why not help your country and your family at the same time? We promise you a swift death and $100,000 to your family and all you have to do is strap on a bomb and detonate yourself at a place that we would name. Transportation to the detonation point would, of course, be provided.
Then we get all these people together in a stadium or gymnasium or something, get all the networks, Al Jazeera, the BBC- the whole hee haw gang- together and televise internationally all our suicide pledges. The caption would be "Coming at you Arabs!" Give 'em a little taste of their own medicine to see how they liked it. I guarantee the Arab/Muslim world would suddenly find a whole host of reasons why suicide bombers were despicable.
