Bush White House Angered by Secret Clinton-Abdullah Meeting

Monday, May 13, 2002 10:48 a.m.EDT Bush White House Angered by Secret Clinton-Abdullah Meeting

The Bush White House was surprised and angered when it discovered two weeks ago that ex-president Bill Clinton held a secret meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah only hours after members of the royal family met with President Bush and his father in Houston.

"To the dismay of White House planners, [Abdullah] saw an unscheduled and unexpected visitor: Bill Clinton," reported USA Today on Monday - more than two weeks after NewsMax.com became the first news organization to reveal the secret sit-down in print. (See: Clinton in 3-Hour Mystery Meeting with Saudi Prince Abdullah)

The paper notes that the surprise meeting had taken place at "a sensitive moment for the Middle East," during a visit where the Bush administration had taken great pains to "plot every detail of [Abdullah's] weekend trip to Texas."

"The former president, in Houston for a fundraiser and staying at the same posh hotel as the Saudi leader, headed upstairs after midnight for a private chat that had been arranged only a few hours earlier. Their 90-minute meeting didn't end until 2 a.m.," USA Today said.

Actually, according to former top Clinton aide George Stephanopoulos, the Saudi-Clinton get-together lasted much longer - till 4 a.m., according to his little-noticed remarks on ABC's "This Week" the next day.

And just hours before the Stephanopoulos comments, Saudi foreign minister Prince Saud al-Faisal told Fox News that Abdullah's meeting with the ex-president featured three hours of "serious talks."

White House officials were apparently so embarrassed by Clinton's efforts to upstage President Bush that they refused to respond to NewsMax.com's inquiries about the meeting.

The silence left many concerned that Bush himself had signed off on Clinton's foreign policy meddling at a moment of crisis in the Mideast.

But according to USA Today, the ex-president didn't even have the decency to notify the White House about the high-stakes get-together.

"[Bush] aides express exasperation about Clinton's impromptu session with Abdullah two weeks ago, at a time of delicate negotiations and evolving policy," the paper revealed. "No administration official sat in on the meeting."

Indeed, NewsMax.com confirmed that officials at the George Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas, where Abdullah met with Bush senior on Friday, April 26, had no idea that Clinton was scheduled to meet the Saudi prince just hours later.

"I can assure you Clinton was not here on Friday," said Tom Hughes of Texas A & M University, where the Bush library is housed. "We would have covered that if he was."

Even members of the local Houston press queried by NewsMax were unaware of the Clinton-Abdullah mystery meeting.

It's a shame the Bush admin seems to be so afraid of both Bubba and his wife.

Give me a break! Bush has class and isn't about to fight the way those two fight, but you can bet on the fact he'll win!

Practically everything the male clinton touches turns to Treason, and the White House is miffed over one incident?

I may be mistaken, but I think that this is against the law (something to be sure that Bubba is not all that much concerned with or qualified to practice).

I believe that anyone, including former presidents, are forbidden from discussing foreign policy issues with expressed permission from the sitting President. Does my memory serve correct?

Also, I think it would be interesting to review Hitlery's comments about the Mid-East shortly after this secretive meeting took place. I would not be surprised if there is some illegal or potenitally treasonous activity that could have taken place. These people, after all, hate America and hate capitalism...and, most of all, hate Bush and will do anything to 1) make him look bad and 2) oust him from office.

Seriously, it is too bad Clinton's momma ain't around to smack some sense into him. Of course, I suppose if she was a moral woman, she would have smacked some sense into him long ago.

I am getting to the point where every time I see or hear his or her name, I just want to scratch my eyes out and fill my ears with hot lead. At least for the rest of my life, I wouldn't have to see or hear them again...Truly two of the most vile people ever to walk the face of the earth!

He had probably hoped to find the Prince's harem. You know how these Arab Prince's have around 100 wives.

The Prince should be greatful that he won't be billed six figures for the visit.

Clinton can be hired to crash weddings too, at no charge, as long as you give him a chance to look down the brides dress.

Hey... I'm still a big Bush supporter, but I'd like to see him smack down someone who crosses him. He's had quite a few opportunities, but has yet to do so.

Not to put on a tinfoil hat - but I don't trust Bill Clinton in the least. He is power crazy and will do anything to again put himself in a position to wield power.

Suppose there were negotiations for future Saudi support of Hillary (money & influence on those accepting Saudi campaign money) in order to get the Clintons back in the White House and then the payoff to the Saudis when one of them is in the White House. We know Clinton has no qualms about selling our secrets - why not sell our government to the Saudis if they help them get back power.

The very fact that Clinton did this - is enough to use against any future Clinton effort to put themselves in a government position.

Why get miffed at Clinton
We know what he is

What Bush should be outraged about is ABDULLAH

Maybe Bush will have learned a lesson but I doubt it
He already violated his own war on terror speech by not branding Arafat a terrorist etc etc

Why sure. Those FBI files are the key. GW is totally compromised. Do you ever think that this "Two-Party Cartel" would not put a president in that the elites didn't control? What do you think was the villification against Reagan or Buchanan or Nader about. They don't own them. And GW had a chance to rid the nation of the Clintons and bowed to them. Good go'in Bubba. Put it to him. Show him how good socialists do anything for the cause. Too bad we didn't have a "conservative" president that did everything for the cause.

I think that your memory may be very correct. I can not see this "secret" meeting as anything other than treason. Clinton needs to be investigated and put in jail along with the rest of the traitors to this country. Hildabeast too!

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!THE "BeelzeBubbas"must be STOPPED!!Rush predicted some time ago that "BeelzeBubba"would NOT honor the time-honored tradition that former-presidents have followed since time-immemorial!!!That TRADITION is similar to General Douglas MacArthur's final speech to Congress when he promised to"Just Fade Away"!!!!!!!!!!!1

IMHO, the logistics of this story don't quite ring true..the Saudi Prince is protected here by the USSS, they would have vetted everyone who works at the hotel, or who would be registered there at the same thime..so they had to know in advance that Bubba was gonna be there.....and Slick's own USSS detail reports his itinerary to HQ, so it would have come up there on a simple cross check....the WH had to know in advance tha Bubba was in the building..

I first heard this on FOX at the time Abdullah had meet with GHWB that same evening. I had read it on Newsmax and I thought I had read it here also. We all know that Clinton stays up all night on the phone. I would not put it past him to be talking to all foreign leaders and some of them to him. What I can't figure out is why Bush will allow Clinton to go to China. He should send his father who was our ambassador there for a number of years. Then there is the Mckenna who worked for the dems and then worked directly for Bush in the 2000 election, has recently contributed to the dems running in 2004. Tony Snow announced this yesterday on his SUnday program. Then there is mary Matlin in the WHite House and now Karen Hughes is leaving. I don't know of any 15 year old boy who would even claim to need his mother. At that age, that is not the figure he needs. Maybe Hughes just wants to leave, but I believe there is more to the story. What is Karl Rowe doing. He should have more of a handle on the people around him, like McKenna, Matlin, Hughes. And the Clinton underground calls should come as no surprise to anyone, so why is the Bush team so niave about all of this.

The story this morning on FOX and Friends was that Hiliary will be the VP candidate for the dem ticket in 2004 and Edwards would be the front runner. Then there is Rush who cannot agree on anything that Bush is doing. What a mess. It makes me fell that we are in election mess of 1996 all over again.
