Arson, reckless driving, condoms on her glasses . . .

Another giant is taken from us.

Exactly. What a joke.

True, but at least her glasses never sired any unwanted child eyewear. The streets of many third world countries and many American inner-city neighborhoods are clogged with unwanted eyeglasses, sunglasses and even the occasional monocle, all depending on government handouts...

I'm sorry : perhaps I'm being (shudder !) insensitive ! I did not follow the late Ms Lopes career , but am told it involved a lot of sexually explicit stuff.

How, exactly is the consistent with the message of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church ?

When I die, I hope someone quotes from the Psalms.

In her case, they discussed how she wore one of these on her face.

LOL, exactly how I feel. Unfortunately, I live in Atlanta where we have been inundated for the past 10 days with 24/7 coverage of the passing of this legend. The Atlanta Journal/Constitution has devoted entire sections to the "life and times" of old Lefty Lopes. One section helpfully provided the reader with a time line of this 32 year old's accomplishments while on Earth. The "highlights" included the night she burned down boyfriend Andre Rison's million dollar home, as well as the night she was arrested at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium for drunk and disorderly conduct. This is the same media that smeared John Rocker over and over again for some off-the-wall comments in Sports Illustrated. He, without a criminal record, was (and still is)treated by the Atlanta media as scum, yet Lefty is venerated as royalty. Go figure. I will share with you a letter to the editor from this mornings edition of the AJC:

Please, please, please, please. I beg you, please. Please, no more about Lisa Lopes. I will pay you not to. I will work for you for free. I'm afraid to open my paper for fear of seeing more about Lisa Lopes. Who is she, anyway?

Come on people!

Look, I know she did some things that were pleanty stupid during her life, but that does not mean she deserved to die this way.

You are not only showing contempt for her, but also for her fans. Granted, the fact people lined up early for this funeral as if it was more of a concert was tasteless.

But one way or another, when one life touches so many others, when they are not around, well....

Nobody suggests that she "deserved to die this way." We're only saying that the people who idolize self-indulgent, irresponsible criminals are a couple of bricks shy of a load.

She committed only ONE crime of note, that of arson. It is not like she was one of those rappers who shoot people and rape women.

Self-indulgent? Perhaps. Irresponsible? Maybe. But was she like Tupac Shakur? Biggie Smalls? No way.

I could care LESS about them because there is no argument they were slimeballs in life. Can you say the same about Lisa Lopes?

Jeez, Hobey, I can't even begin to tell you how profoundly this death has affected me.

I'm more interested in the high/low tide reports, so I can figure out the best time to go fishing!

Dead-black-rapper? Kool.............FRegards

All right already, enough of this Left eye tart.So she bit the dust.I knew the media saturation would start.I haven't heard shit about Layne Staley of Alice in Chains who was ten times more talented. But he was just another fried white dude and didn't fit in with all the rap crap.Music has just gone to hell in a handbasket these days. It's all manufactured and sounds exactly the same.

Lopes was part of the Grammy-winning TLC, one of the best-selling female groups of all time.

Amazing. Until Lefty died I'd never heard of them. The same thing goes for Aliah, or whatever her name was who died a few months back. All in all, over the past few decades, it seems that being a musician carries the same deadly risks as being a Clinton associate.

I never heard of her until her death. I heard on TV she wore the condom as a way to promote safe-sex.

I hear that. Alice In Chains is the band that deserves a tribute on EmptyV/VH1.

I know this will sound so disrespectful, but I think park of the disparagy in mourning has a lot to do with the difference in how certain ethnicities deal with death. I've found black celebrations and mourning activities to be downright showy, public displays.
