Thong-Wearing Teens Kicked Out Of Dance

A group of parents are calling for the resignation of Rancho Bernardo High School's vice principal, claiming she enforced underwear checks at a school dance, 10News reported.

The dance occurred Friday and vice principal Rita Wilson turned away girls who were wearing thongs, the parent said.

Kim Teal is among the several parents angry with Wilson (pictured, right).

"First thing (my daughter) said when she got into the car was, 'Mom, it was horrible last night. You have to fight this,'" Teal told 10News.

According to parent Alane Garvik, girls who arrived at the dance wearing short skirts were immediately asked: "What kind of underwear do you have on?"

When Garvik's daughter red-facedly announced that she was wearing thong underwear she was told to "go home and put on appropriate underwear," according to Garvik.

Teal's daughter made it in and claims to have witnessed faculty lifting the skirts of girls to assure that the offending underwear was going nowhere near the dance floor.

"Well, I just saw ... a line of people and the vice principal, Mrs. Wilson, she was checking to see what the girls were wearing under their dresses. And she was literally lifting up their skirts and embarrassing them in front of everyone else," one student told 10News.

Parents and students have placed the blame on Wilson, for spearheading the thong underwear checks, even though there is nothing in the school dress code against them.

"It's not their right to know what kind of underwear these kids have," Garvik told 10News.

10News contacted school officials, who all declined to go on camera. But Principal Paul Gentle did say that he is "looking into the situation."

Parents are now asking for Wilson to resign.

Gentle said that even while enforcing the school dress code, it is not proper procedure to ask students what they are wearing underneath their clothes.

He told 10News that he plans to meet with parents sometime this week.

there is a big difference between your fiancee, me, or any other grown woman wearing a thong wherever we please, and high school girls wearing them to a school dance.

I think the difference is all about the proper skirt for a young lady, not the underwear :-)

The idea that what a person wears UNDER their clothing somehow dictates the way a person acts or makes that person who they are is outdated and puritanical at best. Thongs are UNDERWEAR nothing more nothing less. It's YOUR conotation that makes them "naughty" or "bad" not the particular underwear themselves. You can blame sex, drugs, and rock n' roll for the moral degeneration of scoiety, and probably make good arguments, but underwear?! Sorry, but I am not "too obtuse" to recognize anything - underwear are just that, underwear. If you have a problem with thongs, that's your problem not the underwear's nor the girl's.

It was sex, and wouldn't have been anyone's business if he had done it in the private section of the WH. He also lied about it under oath and that IS (depending on what "is" is. HA!) our business. Public servants should not lie, especially under oath. I would have voted against him.

Thongs are just another kind of underwear; they offer advantages with sleeker clothing because they don't interfere with the line and drape of dressy fabrics.

The bottom line :) is that if the principal had to ask a girl what kind of underwear she has on, it was none of her business.

It does not surprise me that this action was needed. Particularly with the dirty dancing going on at school dances now-a-days. It is so bad, even at private schools, that they almost need to have a sign outside the gym, "Dogs Hump Outside" and "This IS A No Humping Zone". I am sure this vice principal has seen the next stage of hump dancing--bare ass hump dancing---and was trying to stop it before it began. These kids along with there stupid parents will probably stage a protest if they are not allowed to bare ass hump dance, I can hear their battle cry "No Humping, No Peace".

I'll admit, a small percentage of people would probably go uneducated without public schools

...however, it would be a smaller percentage than the amount that remain uneducated within public schools.

I log off every night in case of storms. One good electrical surge could fry the computer. I delete cookies and do defrags a lot. It makes the computer run faster.

So, the schools now feel they can check panties at their will. It must be that new pedophilia programming.

No. I'm a believer that teenagers CANNOT vote yet for a reason. They're under the control of their parents and other authorities for a reason.
