I'll admit, a small percentage of people would probably go uneducated without public schools

...however, it would be a smaller percentage than the amount that remain uneducated within public schools.

Naturally, including the teachers.

Illiteracy actually increased in this country after compulsory educated was mandated. For example in Massachusetts prior to this the rate was between 98-99%.
