Hobbes is working TK. but as i said above....
Besides the isssue is deeper than that. to get to a compelling state interest, you have to also prove you have someone protected to that extent under the amendment, and as general re pointed out, the courts say you don't have that here....

All my life I have waited for a job that suits my calling, and this is it (so these demented Goals 2000 educators think)

If we don't check the thong panties of high school girls for coverage, the terrorists win!

We have finally found a job for Bubba.

I wonder - why didn't the Thong & Dance Polize just line the attendees up like their parent's cars at the MARTA Stations and use those mirrors they use to check under the cars ?? ?? ??

Or the female Vice Principal is interested for other reasons.

"but the ones wearing the thongs were wearing them for one reason only and it was not because it was the most comfortable choice of undergarment available to them."
Very good point...this kind of underwear has to make the wearer very aware of her derriere! Again, if parents don't teach their daughters that this belongs on the honeymoon and not before it then they might pay a high price down the road.

I'll take that bet.

Unless there were extenuating circumstances (like the record heat wave we had) I think it is inappropriate to wear a thong to the high school parties.

As usual, sloppy reporting. What the story failed to mention was that girls who wore thongs were handed a box of Altoids mints and girls who wore panties were given condoms. I think the girls who wore neither were given RU 486.

Very good point...this kind of underwear has to make the wearer very aware of her derriere! Also the wearer's partner.

OH the idea. "Young lady take off the thong right now I have some panties for you." Later that night at the computer. www.ebay.com Teen thongs - worn bidding starts at $15.00

For the record, H's G is not a lawyer because he couldn't stomach life as a law clerk and decided life as a lawyer wouldn't be any better. He is currently a professional writer.

Let's see now -- high school girls in short skirts and thong underwear at a dance. I rather doubt that a girl has any reason for doing this other than providing easy access. Do you have anything other than anecdotal evidence to suggest wearing a thong will lead to "easy access"? I would suggest the wearing of a thong is unrelated to actual behavior.
And the fact that the principal is checking at all suggests that "easy access" has already become a problem.
Nice circular logic. "The practice exists, therefore there must be a reason for the practice to exist."
At any rate, the lady's right: that kind of clothing has no place at a public event for kids.
The question remains: is it the role of the school to enforce underwear codes, or the role of the parent to do so?

So we are defining the bet as winning a civil suit, not the firing of the teacher?
