This would put an airbase within range of the Sprately (sp?) islands and the Strait of M**? where the oil tankers go thru to deliver oil to Japan. This could almost be a move on china.

A base in the Phillipines would be good for both the USA and The Phillipines. Besides the anti terror aspects it would be an exellent staging area when the PRC starts expanding militarily.
