The head of the US episcopal conference Wilton Daniel Gregory said there was an ongoing struggle within the Catholic Church to ensure that the priesthood is not "dominated by homosexual men".
Gregory and Chicago Archbishop, Cardinal Francis George, told reporters that the issue of homosexual priests had been discussed in a solemn morning meeting between Pope John Paul II and US cardinals on the issue of paedophile priests.
"It is an ongoing struggle. It is most importantly a struggle to make sure that the Catholic priesthood is not dominated by homosexual men," Gregory told a news conference after the first session of talks which are to last until Wednesday.
"Not only that it is not dominated by homosexual men, but that the candidates we receive are healthy in every possible way, psychologically, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually."
"That is the ongoing concern of seminaries."

but, but, but, they just won the fight to let them in. To force them out now would be divisive, discriminatory, politically incorrect, homophobic, hateful, biased, prejudiced, etc., etc., etc.

"Catholic Church said to be struggling to keep homosexuals out".........they bent over backwards.

"Would they rather have heterosexual men? If so, why?"
Because homosexuality is an abomination before God, forbidden in the same sentence as bestiality.
But you knew that.

Homosesuals have tried to invade every cherished instititution. I become ill to think about my brother, an eagle scout, and what he may have subjected to.
I still cannot believe that Cardinal Law gave permission to the priest who condoned NAMBLA. I went to Catholic University, and the priests I knew would NEVER do this. I pray for the priests who pray for us.

Because homosexuality is an abomination before God I thought you religionists said it was the act, not the person.

If they don't indulge in homosexuality at all (i.e. stay celibate) is that still an abomination?

Leviticus 18
22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

How does one go about doing this? Is asking sufficient, or do they hook candidates to machines and show them pictures of various naked people to see what causes the greater emotional response?

There is a device which monitors the dilation of the pupils in response to a series of sexually suggestive pictures. I can't remember the proper name for it, but the RCMP called it the "Fruit Machine" when they used it to screen out homosexual security risks in sensitive government jobs.

I wonder if you follow Leviticus to the letter, or if you cherry pick the Stone Age prohibitions that best fit your agenda?
