How about someone set up a booth near this one, and offer $75 for any decent weapons?

Gun buybacks == hot gun dumpsite.

"buyback"? As thought the government owned the guns in the first place and now wants to buy them back?
To: tarawa
"Buyback" lines are a great place to get great firearms at cheap prices!

"They will not be asked to identify themselves."Of course not. The new facial recognition cameras will do the job just fine. If you go, where a ski mask.

How about someone set up a booth near this one, and offer $75 for any decent weapons? My thoughts, exactly. What a great little business oppotunity. But then the PD would probly shut you down for being better at business than they are. Private citizens are almost always better at business than political bodies.

The cheepest of my guns is worth a couple of hundred, are there really people stupid enough to hand in decent guns for 50$?

Either that or someone should tell them to take their expensive guns to the next gun show and get real money for them. All those guns will not get destroyed. I know cops that always filter out the extremely valuable ones, and keep them for themselves.
What a rip off.

Any limit on the number.
Bet you could turn out a functional zip-gun for about $5, maybe less.

If the "buy back" is "no questions asked" and if the proper paperwork is not filled out and filed, then the transfer is illegal traffic in firearms and
everyone involved is a federal felon.
I am no lawyer but so it seems to me.
What would happen if someone dropped a dime and reported that illegal trafficking is occurring at such-and-such a place, at such-and-such a time...to the BATF?
Yeah, I know; they would probably do nothing.
'Course, one could then give a press conference announcing that the allegation had been presented and that we await the BATF's response.
If the Mayor, Police Chief, D.A., et al are involved, they should be arrested.
Or so it seems to this engineer.

Officers will accept guns at the National Cattle Congress's pavilionAnd then you might as well just board the cattle cars for the trip to the "showers"; why waste time?

Molon labe!

Call the local police and ask them for their FFL number.
Call the local paper and advise that the police are illegally transfering firearms.
Call the local D.A. and ask for the FFL number. Ask them about the limit of their liability in this instance.
Call the FBI and ask if the city has to comply with the law. Ask them to call the D. A.'s office to confirm this.
End of "Gun Buybacks" in this city.
To: monday
Yes, when they are stolen, or they are rusty relics. Both are usually the case. Hence, some have sued, saying that the city is buying stolen firearms and trading in firearms without an FFL.

A successful gun buyback program last year has More "objectivity" from the AP: using the word successful as though it were an indisputable fact.
So, what do they mean by "successful"? Was there a sudden drop in violent crime right after the event? Did accidental firearm injuries go down? What?

Where?
To: DaveCooper
Guns were taken "off the streets" and therefore, the event was a success. I'll bet you didn't even know there were guns in the street in the first place! It's why the roads are bumpy, doncha know.
