Proponents of drilling for oil in Alaskas Arctic National Wildlife Refuge fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to shut off Senate debate on the proposal Thursday, thereby losing the chance to vote on it. A House-Senate conference committee will need to reconcile the House-passed energy bill which would allow drilling in the refuge with any energy bill the Senate passes, giving proponents of Arctic drilling another opportunity to reach their goal.

All we need now is a oil shortage and the democrats are dead meat for the mid term elections. People are a bit fickle yah know. Don't be so sure (except for the fickle part).
The media and the RAT spin machine will work overtime to blame any price increases or oil shortages on the President -- they'll point to his not solving the mideast crisis or belligerence toward oil producing countries (oh, those sanctions on Iraq killing babies), or his axis of evil, or anything. And it will certainly work in the media.
It always comes home to roost on the President -- it's on his "watch" -- and the RATS have done this many times before: Do something especially rotten and pin the blame on some Republican (much better: A PRESIDENT!) for what comes from their own actions. It classic RAT.
And more times than not, it works.

Every step we take seems to be toward more dependence on our enemies.

You can't puncture Mother Earth..
That's a no-no.
Actually, I think it's BS that we can't go get the oil we know is in ANWR and it's even more BS that we can't go after the oil we know is off the Gulf.
It never ceases to amaze me, everyone wants cars, electricity, pampering to the nth degree.. but no one wants to do what is required to provide these luxurys in "their back yard" It's always got to be somewhere else.
In California they will sit in a dark room and whine about the darkness & whine about not wanting more power plants.
I will never understand this. It borders on the surreal.

Saudi/OPEC lobby in conjunction with enviros??
Maybe they should ask the Indians and Eskimos living there if they would like to increase their standard of living?

SUV owners must be crushed. On the plus side, this improves the economic viability of more nuclear power!!!
To: DoveTurnedHawk
I guess the dems have been bought off by the terrorists. They want to keep us beholden to mid-east oil. I wonder how much the Saudis had to pay them?
To: mdwakeup
Thanks for that post! I'd like to say, that even though there were some 'Crossovers',This all began with Jim "Hey Tommy,Give me a Little Power O.K.?" Jeffords, the SKUNK.I haven't forgotten that "RATS" betrayal.

There's still some residual traces of respect for our natural landscapes, but American consumerism is barreling ahead at full speed.
I'm sure within the next 100 years our need for two-story cars and a BigMac on every corner will result in the destruction of most of our National Parks and reserves.
