Unknown Substance Released At Hartsfield
By Channel 2 Action News

April 15, 2002 -- An unknown substance was reportedly released at Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport today, forcing an evacuation.

The airport's north terminal has been blocked off.

People are reporting some type irritation to their eyes and throat. Two persons were transported to Southern Regional Hospital, and police are investigating the cause of the irritant.

Police and fire have blocked off the North Terminal. The incident took place in the North ticketing area.

In addition to Atlanta police units, Clayton County is also sending police to the airport to assist in the hazardous materials incident.

After patrolling the airport since last fall, the National Guard turned over airport security to off-duty police officers just this weekend.

The airport was last evacuated on Nov. 16 when Michael Lasser, 33, he ran down an up escalator at Hartsfield. He said he did so to get back to his son at the gate. The security breach shut down Hartsfield for hours.

Lassiter, who was flying to a University of Georgia football game, was sentenced to five weekends in jail and 500 hours of community service. He also was barred from attending University of Georgia football games this fall.

"I made a mistake, and my family and I have suffered greatly for it," Lasseter said in court. "I'm here today to accept responsibility for my actions and the response from the court."

Three other criminal charges were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea. The full sentence was two one-year probated jail terms.

"I wish you well," Judge Morris Braswell told Lasseter. "I don't anticipate seeing you again."

Stay tuned to Channel 2 Action News for updates on the latest incident.

Judging by this part of the article, Atlanta is willing to shut down its airport for major security incidents such as running down an up escalator! In fact the "culprit" was jailed for 5 weekends, got 500 hours "community service" (3 months full time work) and was forbidden from attending college football for one season.

Given the INSANE treatment of the escalator man, I have little doubt that the "unknown substance released" was a strong FART; and that the culprit will be tried (utilizing secret evidence from a secret tribunal) and executed for attempted terrorism.

My wife connected through Atlanta today. She missed her original connection. She was pissed. According to Delta her flight took off just after the reported incident. We did have breakfast at Waffle House before she left Tampa. Oh my God, can she go to jail for that?

Well, I don't really have any words to describe just how unimaginably stupid I find this.

Given the INSANE treatment of the escalator man.

If you think that was insane wait till the civil suits get flying. Airlines lost millions due to that bozo and the reaction of security. Security was doing it's job, he is going to have a large negative net worth.

IF he could be successfully sued (which I doubt), he would simply declare bankruptcy once he lost in any event.

Hear no evil... smell no evil! When things begin to smell, hit the alarm button! You will be rewarded with a loud siren and stern verbal warning. Lets farters know they're living in a gas-free zone!

What do they mean by "released" has anyone reported seeing a gas released into the air?

It's obvious: Cynthia Ann McKinney had eaten a lot of beans before returning to Washington.

Man, I'd hate to drop a package of powdered donuts on a jetway...they'd have to evacuate the terminal.

Everytime I see that drug eyed pic of Hillary I ask myself how much Lorazapam did she take for the depressed effect? I am convinced the Clintons drug up for effect.

Know facts before you render an opinion. By his antics, he bypassed the security checkpoint.

Apparantly so...according to WSB, here's what happened:

"A preliminary investigation indicates pepper spray in a passenger's bag was accidentally discharged, causing the irritation."

He/she will probably get 20 years to life. *grins*
