Daschle No Whiz at History
NEWSMAX ^ | 4/15/02 | Limbacher

Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle desperately needs some history lessons. In a speech to the American Society of Newspaper Editors he declared that had it not been for the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) the world would never have heard of two major events in recent history.

Without FOIA, Daschle said "We might never have known about the Pentagon Papers [or] the My Lai massacre."

Not quite true, Senator. The Pentagon Papers became public knowledge only because they were stolen by Daniel Ellsberg, who helped compile them, and handed over to the New York Times which published them.

The story of My Lai massacre was revealed by a reporter who got his hands on published stories concerning charges already filed against Lt. William Calley.

The FOIA had nothing at all to do with either story.

As bad as Daschle's ignorance of history was the fact that none of the editors present gave any indication they knew any more about history than their guest speaker. Not one challenged his skewed history.

It doesn't matter. He's a Democrat. The press will report what he said without question. They will not report the rebuttal.

...about a month from now a story will surface how Ellsberg had might have actually filed an FOI request.

By this time next year there will be no question that he obtained the Pentagon Papers through a Freedom of Information Request, and Daschle will go on tour with Anita Hill. Oliver Stone will then make a movie about it all.

He's gotten so used to lying, he does it outright, with a straight face, and the media never bother to comment on it.

Can you imagine the firestorm if somebody like Jesse Helms said the exact same thing?

I read that little Tommy and Little Dick complained to the cable news stations that there is excessive reporting on on President Bush...and no reporting on them...even though they hold news briefings throughout the week and reporters attend... I think the reporters are trying to protect them from shooting theirselves in the foot again.

What a boob! Not only did FOIC have nothing to do with the disclosure of either event it, in fact, came about long after due in part because of them!

Okay, let's connect the dots between Gore (Remember him? He used to be a candidate for President. It was in all the papers) and Li'l Tommy Daschle. Gore said this week in Florida that "Democrats whould speak out boldly." Well, Daschle has been doing just that.

The only problem is, every time Daschle "speaks out" he says something that can be easily disproved, or he has to retreat from after getting bad press for 24 hours. Get a clue, Al. Speaking out boldly isn't worth a hoot in a rain barrel if what is said is obviously false and/or obviously stupid.

So Gore should contiue his calls about bold talk without naming a subjct, and Li'l Tommy Daschle should continue missing the mark every time he does just that. The only people who will stand up and cheer for that are fools like the yellow-dog Democrats in Florida, and there are not enough of those to win any national election -- not in 2004, and not for the foreseeable future.

Daschle No Whiz at History

You could have stopped after the word "Whiz", and been just as accurate and even more descriptive!

The best part about this is for the first time I can recall, the media cannot be at their sides to bail them.

Hillary came out of her closet when she attempted to offer taxpayer money to all of her enemies (9/11 volunteer people) in NY. She agreed to the distribution amount, simply not with the details.

Dashle is only a few years younger than my generation and had to have known better. Another case of "change the facts to fit the rant"?

Now that's what I would call an ex post facto law with industrial strength.

Suppose any of that new-fangled time travel was involved?

So I have a degree in History from "Gulp" Rutger '65. We had to contend with some liberal profs and at the time I was, what would be called liberal. As Churchill is often quoted as saying, "..I became a conservative when I began to think!" (bad quote but you get the idea)

The Democraps and Dashole know, thanks to some excellent writings by Herr Goebbels (sic) that you repeat a lie often enough and it becomes fact (History).

Rush was speaking to this today when he reported about the weekend Demo-Cabal in Florida where Blore, (one of the 12 Little Indians), and the other attendees had a canned rant about "Reverse Robbin' Hood" regarding tax cuts for the rich.

Amazing! Here in Texas the "Robbin' Hood" school funding plan was enacted by Gov Ann Richards. It is beginning to unravel and do the harm that all Democrap programs eventually wreak. They're self-destructing and .....GOOD FOR THEM.

Gee, I thought Al Gore single handedly passed FOIA, was the reporter who published the My Lai story, and handed over the Pentagon Papers. The trouble with democrat history is they keep changing it.
