Yeah, I was a big fan of his up until he failed to vote to impeach Clinton. I'm still kinda rooting for him, but I know now he's just a weasel.

All politicians are weasels to some extent, or they won't be where they're at today. I guess Traficant's problem is he got caught! Too bad, I liked his rant against the Clintons.

If Traficant's last name was Clinton then he wouldn't be in the mess he's in today. I firmly believe the remaining Reno justice dept had it in for him!

I agree with everything you said. Everyone else got a pass, they still do.

Traficant made some very powerful enemies. Corrupt politician (which they all are IMO), or not, he was correct about an awful lot of things. He also has something that they'll never have...a spine. He also has my respect.

Traficant is NOT an American hero, as so many have said. People are making him some sort of martyr. He is a living breathing Sound Byte. Talked the Talk, but never walked the walk. How did he vote on Clinton impeachment, after he scathed the guy in his infamous 3 Minute Sound Bytes? Traficant voted not to impeach.

As far as I am concerned, his integrity stopped there. He said all the right things to frenzy the crowd (me included)in his legendary 3 Minute Sound Bytes. The guy is worthy of Saturday Night Live, not the US Congress.

I call Traficant an "American Hero" because he had the Cojones to stand up to the Justice Department and fight 'em. Do I agree with him on every issue? Hell no! But I admire his courage and fortitude. If more people stood up and fought, this country would be a better place.

Anoyone who says that Gephardt "has no balls" and "can go f--- himself" in a press conference is my personal hero!

Why do you think Trafficant didn't hire counsel? Because he was making the point that YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO HIRE A LAWYER in the court system of your own country! Hello! Or has the law become so corrupt that only those who have spent years and years studying it can correct decode it? Shouldn't we be able to follow the law and defend ourselves as American citizens? I have used a lawyer once in my life and never again. Never again will I feed the class of those who memorize the law as it is with no willingness to change it or reform it, in the very same way that ever single accountant out there ensures that our tax law remains as complex as it is. The verdict reflects not on Trafficant's level of intelligence but rather on the willingness of the government to drive out those who disagree with them.

What's sad about most of the posts is the lack of insight -- think what you will about Trafficant, but he at least had a spine. He was a voice of difference in the whole herd mentality of centralism-moderatism that swamps the House and Senate. Those who want change need to encourage guys like Trafficant...those who don't will shoot him down and then whine about how nothing ever changes.

Amen. If what Clinton, Condit, Frank, and Studds did doesn't "rise to the level of removal", then Trafficant's actions certainly don't. Give the 'RATs a does of their own medicine. Let Trafficant STAY in office and embarrass the 'RAT party more. Encourage your congressman to vote AGAINST removal. ;-)
