Other budget items Senate Democrats approved some items Wednesday as part of their budget repair bill to fill the state’s $1.1 billion shortfall. Those items would:

• Broaden municipalities’ powers and allow school districts to charge impact fees on the cost of new development.

• Keep the $1 billion in state shared-revenue aid that local governments use to pay for services like police and fire protection; Gov. Scott McCallum proposed phasing out those local aids by 2004 to help close out the deficit.

• Eliminate the seven State Patrol dispatch centers and direct the Department of Transportation to coordinate dispatch duties with county sheriffs.

• Provide financial incentives for municipalities to combine their services.

• Require 100 percent of future budget surpluses to be transferred to a rainy day fund; current law requires 50 percent of surpluses to go to the fund.

• Cut $3 million from the Department of Commerce Development Fund, which gives loans and grants to developing businesses; the fund currently gets $5.9 million in taxpayer money

• Eliminate $1.9 million in taxpayer funding for the Division of International and Export Services in the commerce department.

• Maintain $480,000 in grants to the Dane County Expo Center. Sources: Senate Democrats, The Associated Press, Press-Gazette

First the communists support revenue sharing and then propose methods to further damage economy and infrastructure! Dave Hanson, youve been given notice, you had better start looking for work elsewhere!

“If I was a taxpayer in the state of Wisconsin right now, I’d be holding on to my wallet with both hands.”

MY WALLET, they can have it, there's nothing in there anyway, the state has it all.

I'm waiting for the next time property taxes are raised again.

This is so old hat; I just pay and pay and pay and pay.
