President Bush's Palestinian Bombshell

ON reviewing President Bush's outstanding speech today on the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, I was struck by the following passage...

"I call on the Palestinian people, the Palestinian Authority, and our friends in the Arab world to join us in delivering a clear message to terrorists. Blowing yourself up does not help the Palestinian cause. To the contrary, suicide bombing missions could well blow up the best and only hope for a Palestinian state."

Let's look at that last line again...

"To the contrary, suicide bombing missions could well blow up the best and only hope for a Palestinian state."

For the first time since the Oslo folly, we see the possibility that there might not necessarily be a second "palestinian" state in the Middle East. Jordan of course, is the first.

This is a very hopeful sign.

Let Israel be Israel.

I have just about had it, with being told I should be patient with yet another betrayal of principle on the part of the Bush-Powell-Arafat administration, because somehow they are pursuing some supposed pragmatic, unprincipled, dirty little crooked deal somewhere or other.

I don't know whether they are, or not, and I don't care!

What is needed is somebody who will stick to principle, REGARDLESS of the supposed opportunism of the moment.

The same way we did, assert their God given right to self defense and then worry about any mythical retaliation from the USA later. No one in their right minds think we would abandon Israel for killing the entire nest of pond scum the are presently surrounding.

You're correct, but that's not the highest priority right now.

All I'm saying is that the passage above is the first sign I've seen from Bush that Oslo could come off the table...
