Viacom shares rose $1.15, or 2.4 percent, to $48.50 on Thursday. Following Gumble's announcement, of course.

Thanks Vis, as you'll see I posted this just after you did. Wanted to make sure the whole world rejoiced in the news! Ironic, isn't it, that this story breaks on the day of my post regarding his bias on the Mideast situation. Behold the power of Free Republic!

He would have been "stepping down to spend more time with his family," if he hadn't dumped them a while back.

They should cancel it altogether. Sheesh...what a bunch of drivel. I watched some of it last week for the first and last time. I can't believe Americans have the time or desire to watch anything remotely resembling a show such as this. What an absolute waste of time. The only show worse, I think, is THE VIEW. I watched that for about 5 minutes once. Man, talk about inane.

A bit more info
(CNSNews.com) - Bryant Gumbel, the CBS correspondent known to many conservatives for wearing his liberalism on his sleeve, is leaving the CBS Early Show to "pursue other interests," he announced on Thursday. "After more than 17 years of hosting a morning news program, I feel it's time for me to move on and do something else with my life," Gumbel said in a statement. "As I prepare to begin a new chapter in my personal life" (he recently emerged from a bitter divorce and is engaged to marry), Gumbel said, "it makes sense to me to turn the page on my professional life as well." CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves called Gumbel "A uniquely talented individual who will excel at any challenge or opportunity put before him." It was not immediately clear if Gumbel will leave CBS altogether, or if he is just leaving the early news program.

I thought he was leaving to spend more time with his family!
To: visagoth
Yippee! Our CBS station is a UHF channel, thus The Early Show is the only morning news that comes in clear with our rabbit ears. I want to smack the TV about 10 times every morning when His Arrogance snarls his way through his editorial and snitty snotty leftish reportage.
To: visagoth
He'll show up on either CNN or MSNBC. But knowing FOX lately, don't be surprised if he shows up there either.
