Sarah Brady just called. She says if these folks had just had a panic room instead of a gun, this tragedy wouldn't have happened.

Shortly after 9 p.m., two men posing as police officers burst in Coady's southwest Memphis home in the 1200 block of Michigan yelling "police, police, get down," said Harper, 63. This is not the first time this has happend. I have a policy that anyone who commits violence in my home will get violence in return, regardless of what they yell while breaking my door down.
Anyone who doesn't want to get hurt should have the decency to knock when entering another person's house.

The shooting leaves Coady, 73, and Harper shaken. They watched the two men who invaded their home grow up in the neighborhood. "We've known these boys since they were babies," Harper said. "It is a sad thing because we saw them all the time and know their folks."
We are bringing up people who have a piece of their soul missing.

You might have a point there. It would be bad precedent to send the message that shooting at "cops" coming through the door is ok.

Anyone who doesn't want to get hurt should have the decency to knock when entering another person's house. Agree completely. I can't think of any justification for no-knock warrants, except MAYBE to prevent imminent loss of life of an abductee, for example. Otherwise, the risk is just not justified.

The alarming thing is that it has become credible to pretend to be cops when making an illegal invasion.
That says more about today's cops than it does about the crooks or innocent defenders.
To: Wolfie
Perhaps the 'cops' shouldn't be coming through the door in this manner.

Its actually pretty easy to tell if they're cops or not. If you shoot, and you're alive when the smoke clears, they weren't real cops.

This started years ago because of raids on drug houses. Police kept saying that perps were flushing drugs down the toilet while they were serving warrants. No evidence- no conviction.
SOLUTION: No Knock Warrants. It has morphed into what we have now- police shooting innocents at the wrong address and criminals copying the police methods.
Time to do away with illegal "No Knock Warrants".

Bingo. It was a copycat crime.
