USO Canteen FReeper Style....Monday....April 1,2002

USO Canteen Freeper Style

War has come to our shores. It was committed on American soil.  We have been able to live in Freedom only because of those who have fought in the past wars giving life, limb and all the sacrifices for us to live in Freedom and go about our day without fear.

On September 11, 2001, that comfort, that feeling of living in a land that would not be attacked ended.

William T. Sherman said it succinctly, "War is hell."

The day has come for this Nation and its people to understand that there is a risk in losing its freedom, and in reality there always has been. We have ONLY stayed free because of the sacrifices of our military, our warriors.

This is about saving the future of America. Aristotle said, "We make war that we may live in peace."

We are seeing the American Flag flying at homes now more than ever in my lifetime. We are seeing the American Flag flying on vehicles and people wearing Flag pins and small Flags on their clothes. America is united in the cause for Freedom and for our country to WIN against the evil that came upon our land to kill and hurt us. To change our way of life and to destroy America which is US, you and me. To take away our precious Freedom.

This is the Freeper version of the USO Canteen. Where soldiers could come and feel a small part of being at home. It is a place where you that have family in the military can post a thought to a loved one that might be able to read it far away from home. A place where we that support our military can help support them, post to them, fun graphics showing the price in America and our troops. Poems, quotes, cartoons, or articles of how America is behind our troops.

Those in our military are our Nation's warriors. Let us join hands, fly our Flag and let the world know how important our warriors are to us....And that our MILITARY, our Warriors, are America's TRUE HEROS!

"No Marine was ever honored for what they received. Honor was the reward for what they gave." (Anonymous) CHIEF gave his all in many ways. He touched our lives and his friendship meant so much to all of us. He will live in our hearts forever, and his friendship will always be a bright and shining memory in our hearts and souls.

Good morning, ladies. Thanks for your comments and prayers and the update on our young American warriors. I've got to get my wife tuned into this thread, but I'm trying to figure out how to explain "Bunnies and Billies" to her. Sounds kind of suspicious if you don't know better -- know what I mean?

Thanks for providing access to such a wonderful "family."

but I'm trying to figure out how to explain "Bunnies and Billies" to her.

It's really simple, ghost-man. You tell your wife that Billie and Snow Bunny are the reason that the FReeper Canteen ROCKS!!

They are the two most caring and giving gals and they make EVERYONE feel welcome!

That, my FRiend, is a very GOOD THING!!

Morning everyone!

Nice and sunny here in VA Beach today. Hoping like hell it stays that way for hubby's homecoming later this week. Spring break this week, so oldest son is home from school. He can sing his ABCs now (for a 5 yr old diagnosed with high functioning autism, it's something to celebrate). Not 100% clear but it's a great improvement. Can't wait to see what my hubby's reaction is to seeing his kids after 6 months (At 2yrs old Robbie is 3ft tall, JJ is almost 4 ft tall. They take after daddy, who is 6'3" *L*)

Hope everyone has a great day! I'll prolly stop by again later this afternoon, after I'm done cleaning house.

Morning, Billie.

Your Easter page was outstanding. Sorry I'm a day late with kudos.

I can only imagine the hard work you put into it.

You deserve a 'Louie'. : )

Grieving father (David Beamer) shares blessings of Faith

BEAVERTON -- The French horns, guitars and the 100-person choir fell silent Sunday as David Beamer faced a full sanctuary at Beaverton Christian Church.

Beamer's son, Todd, spoke the ill-fated words, "Are you guys ready? Let's roll," to fellow passengers who helped fight hijackers on United Flight 93, which crashed Sept. 11 in rural Pennsylvania.

Amid the hand-clapping hoopla of Easter, the elder Beamer used a break from the celebration to offer a quiet message about the comfort that faith can bring.

"We want you to have what we have," said Beamer, who stood alone, hands clasped in front of him, on the green-carpeted stage.

By that, Beamer did not mean the pain of losing Todd, who was 32 when he died on the doomed flight. Beamer meant he wanted the congregation to share the faith in the Easter story of Jesus Christ's resurrection that has sustained him and his wife, Peggy, through their son's death.

"We've had the experience of Sept. 11 to draw upon (our) faith," Beamer said. "I can assure you, without it, I wouldn't be standing here today."

Beamer, chief operating officer of a software company, spoke Saturday night and at three Sunday services at the Beaverton church, which draws about 2,000 people to weekly services. Pastor Clark Tanner invited the Beamers, who attend a similar nondenominational Christian church near their home in Maryland.

While congregation members sniffled softly in their seats, Beamer spoke without tears of the "blessings" that accompanied his son's death.

Beamer said he knows Todd, who was a Christian, is in heaven, which made it easier for his parents to look into the 40-foot pit at the crash site. He is thankful for Todd's wife, Lisa, and the healthy post-Sept. 11 birth of their daughter, Morgan, now nearly 3 months old.

He mentioned Lisa Jefferson, the operator who took Todd's call from a seat-back Airfone on Sept. 11. Jefferson was a blessing, he said, because she knew the Lord's Prayer and said it with Todd.

With the phone line still open, Jefferson heard Todd call out, "Let's roll," to other passengers. She relayed the words to his family after his death.

Most of all, Beamer said, he is grateful for God's gift of his son, Jesus Christ, to the world.

"This particular Easter, in a more earthly way, we know a little bit more how that feels," Beamer said, "to lose your only son."

Good morning, Bunny. And thanks once again for the Easter greeting.

Ours was especially blessed. My son-in-law just came home with the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt last week. Safe and sound. Much celebrating and prayers of gratitude ensued.
