No, this is awful!
I don't know where anything is anymore!
Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.

The News vs. General Interest Balkanization was not a positive development. This takes things worse. I disagree. I think making a "general interest" section for Vanities, sports, entertainment, cheese and moose was a brilliant move.
The new format will take some getting used to, and I predict that Jim and John will be making some tweaks is response to the criticism.
But, can we ask nice?
Not at you Saber - I just have seen a lot of unnecessary anger on the thread.

The main reason FR is/was so great is because all the other forums you have to choose from out there look & work just like this one does now.Why did they have to keep changing it?

Mark my words. If this format is not changed back then FR is going to be in steady decline. Wanna bet?

Where'd you find it?"

I was looking forward to a thought provoking Saturday, I saw this new format and I lost all contol of my bowels.
I can see your posts just fine.
Happy Easter.

Rule of thumb: People who are satisfied don't waste time on betas, no matter the product. So opinions on betas are usually skewed to the dissatisfied who want change.

It would have been nice for that to be a Custom Feature, for those who wished it that way.
For those like me who don't, different color fonts for News vs. General Interest threads would have been ideal.

But the Beta was not just there to entertain John, it was a preview of what was to come. If everyone chose to ignore it until today, I don't exactly feel sorry for them.

I guess this new format means my house will be cleaner, my grass will be greener, and I will get more work done at the office. This is not worth my time anymore.I agree. (But, I was going to say "I agree with this long-time FReeper". However, when I went to your profile page to see how long, long-time is, I couldn't get it to open properly (don't know if the problem is photopoint.com or something with the new browser)).

This is horrible. It looks good, but it sucks balls. But I'm not complaining. We want the old FreeRepublic back!
To: CedarDave
I don't know. I said it would be nice if they let us fill it up with more headlines or turn it off... kinda like Yahoo.

Has ANYONE heard from either Jim or John today? Until then; I'm not getting too wound up. My sidebar is set; as are my preferences. I have noticed that the topics in my sidebar (including "BREAKING NEWS") move to the TOP of the sidebar whenever a NEW item is posted to that topic. I would, however, rather have more than just FIVE topics displayed at one time.

Hey, I still wish you a great Easter bud. Boy, when Jesus finds out* you're making feces jokes about me... ;^)

Get it? -- I doubt it.
John R. seems to be the main 'sidebar' advocate around here, from what he was writing during 'beta'. -- Maybe he can explain its attraction some day.

Yeah, I like the different colored fonts idea pretty well. Either way, it doesn't affect me much. I see just enough fluff and vitriol to create an adequate diversion from time to time. But, no matter what you do, there will always be the posting nazis. "This is not breaking news." "Why is this on free republic." "What does this have to do with politics/conservatism/culture." "My diaper needs changing." ad nauseum.
