No, this is awful!
I don't know where anything is anymore!
Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.

Well, if someone is miserable, and a particular situation is providing the misery, I don't want to hear bitching, I expect a rational pesron to leave the situation. I think there's a medical emergency at large .... half the posters on Free Republic are passing kidney stones.

I'm the one who 'scored', you dork. --- Here is your post agreeing with one of FR's weirdest bashers:

"Solution: Get rid of the libertarians or house break 'em."
You get a standing ovation. Best advice today.

As others have pointed out, Drudge Report is a success because of it's simplicity. Even the most computer-phobic individual with an IQ five degrees above room temperature can navigate it to it's full potential right off the bat.
Those of us who have been around FR for a while will take the time to learn the new software, customize our settings and do just fine. New viewers may give the new hi-tech FR a five second view and move on. Exactly, I have been a computer professional for 20 years. This new format is WAY too busy. The GOAL is to get to the threads, read them and post to them. The new layout makes that more difficult.

I normally don't jump in at this late of date, but I think it important for myself (and everyone else) to voice their opinion on this. My opinion is as follows:
THIS IS TERRIBLE - BRING BACK THE OLD FORMAT!!!!!!!
Thank you (glad to see that this posting format was brought back as well).

If it wasn't for a whole bunch of meddling Freepers, the Robinson's plan to destroy Free Republic as we know it might have WORKED, dammit.
Leave it to FReepers to have exposed this clever plan just in the nick of time to save us all. Not just from each other, but from Jim and John too, who are very obviously out to get us by changing the Free Republic format without even CONSULTING US!!! Those rats! What nerve!
Don't they know that conservatives don't like change and aren't technically competent to figure stuff out on their own? It explains why we supported Clinton for eight years and Al Gore had to invent the Internet for us.

"...then again I could always change my references" As long as you're a consenting adult, I see no problem with you changing your preferences. Just don't try to force your preferences on others. Stay in the closet.

Hell, I would have promoted -------------------- for that. What's funny is that her profile page was probably the most visited profile page in all of FReeperdom.
I've sometimes thought of creating a female alias and scouring the web for an obscure but really hot photo to post just to see what kind of replies I get from lonely FReeper dudes.

Sure and it was. A good observer of the user interaction learns or is trained to turn general complaints into specific ones, without the user him or her self making them specific. This can be done by backing things out until the complaints go away or by changing this or that thing so as to see what effect on the complaint it has.
A master of excuses rather than fixes it is who burdens the user with requests for more specifics rather than to set out and determine those specifics himself.
To paraphrase Thomas Edison -- 99 "failures" to make one success.

Has anybody found the search function yet? I'm still bumping around into walls. HELP!
To: harrowup
John Robinson is not above throwing in some frivilous and neat bells and whistles to a mature environment just for the struttin' cockadawalk fun.
This is a major project, this had a compelling motivation, and this was NOT fun and games.

I really don't understand many of these complaints. I was shocked when I logged in this morning, although I had been tinkering with the 'beta' site recently, so I wasn't terribly surprised. I use a 56K dial-up modem, and I am not having any trouble with speed (such as it is)...no difference whatsoever. I was able to set up my sidebar in just a few minutes, and I am not a 'computer geek' by any stretch. I've been logged on for an hour, and I'm fine with this. However...is there an option for those who are unhappy with this format to switch back to the old?

They could have saved about 200 hours of design and engineering ...
The plug is pullable!

Your first post to me on this thread was a personal attack, which 'appy pappy' cheered on.
You two clowns have no self respect, or any respect for this forums guidelines.

Okay, I found the search function. But where is "self-search?" Do we not have that one anymore? I used it a lot before.
WAAAAH!
To: Nogbad
Did I do something bad to deserve this? Beautiful but not FUNTIONAL. Please, return to what we had. Easy to use, clear. Concrete Examples:
When I go to self-search, they are now so long I can't see them in a glance. Often, I have very little time and want especially to respond to the ones which are directed personally to me, not the ones on a long "ping list." It is almost impossible to sort these from the others. And so much space is wasted in the new format.
Where are the lastest, most important posts, noted by how many people are responding?
And I rely breaking news! I want to see at a GLANCE wihtout hunting for it!
JimRob, are you playing with us? Is this supposed to mirror what is happening with the President? Are you trying to teach us something? ie: we drink koolaid with the President and so you challenge us to drink koolaid over the new "design?"
Whoever has created this has a lovely sense of design but has not understood the need for functionality. Please let FR continue to grow with meaningful creations: FR Radio, FR USO Canteen, FR Network... but not cosmetic ones.

I've spent the last hour navigating the new format, and I like it. More colorful, easier on the eyes, all the arcane religious discussions are confined to one forum as are the nonsense threads....John and Jim continue to bring state-of-the-art web technology to this wonderful forum.
Some folks just don't like change.
BTW, I second your comments about folks who gripe and don't carry their weight financially on this forum. They've got no standing, as far as I'm concerned.
