So Let's Assume The Republicans Have Majorities In The House & Senate

Posted on 03/28/2002 7:19:50 PM PST by jla

I've been hearing an awful lot about how W is just maneuvering now so the Rep's can gain a majority in the the Senate while retaining it's edge in the House.

Let's assume this happens after the next election. What can we then expect?

IF the majority is of the same substance as the majority we had from 1994-2001 you can expect more pandering to the left to hold office, more bad leglislation, less focus on conservative issues, and so it goes. Despite the Utopia majority hype nothing indeed will change until solid principled anchored in the Constitution and not the party canidates are elected to office. You can have 80% majority but if 31% are RINO's and liberal you have nothing but compromising fools.

I will start taking the GOP serious in general when it starts tossing RINO's yes even at the expense of a seat for a term. Electing a liberal or useless spineless Republican fence stradler just for the sake of the GOP majority is insane and is stupidity on the highest. That has bought us the mess we have now. It's time to stop trying to make two wrongs a right. It goes against the very founding spirit of this great nation to not vote those who will fight for principle. You either believe in a principle strong enough to stand up and fight for that principle or it is not worth fighting for at all.

Electing less than the best gives us less than the best. Our founders gave us their best. We owe them and our children better than a win for the sake of the party election.

I was making a poke at the "crazy conservative" subpopulation we have here at FR.

But you're right cameras are going up everywhere. I'm just not sure exactly how they are supposed to help stop crime and terrorism. We might get a great view of what happened AFTER the fact, but what's a camera going to do to stop any of it?

Because 1% would have made a world of a difference in 2000.

Let me ask you something, and it's a simple question, but if the roles were reversed would you take your 1% vote and vote Libertarian?

Confirmation of all Bush's nominees - and fairly fast.

Remember, the hardcore leftist lobbies tried very hard, even spending millions on "issue ads," to defeat Ashcroft's nomination in a GOP Senate, with the help of leftist Democreep senators - and he was confirmed and fast.

I had no problems voting Independent. I've lived under Boogie Man Gores all my life. Two of them to be exact were my U.S. Senator. I voted against Gores all my life. When a canidate said that he and Gore were not that far apart on most issues I voted against both of them as an Independent. I understand Gore. I also understand RINO's and Gerald Ford Republicans. None of them get my vote. Not last election or elections to be.

If one or both houses are narrowly split, you'll probably see a couple more RINOs turn "independent" or become Democrats, just like Jacka$$ Jim Jeffords, in which case any Republican advantage will be undone.

The bottom line is that not much will change. Republicans will make the excuse that there aren't enough conservatives to pass truly conservative legislation, and we'll simply get more bad government.

to make sure that no one is engaging in homsexual behavior or premarital sex and to make sure those heterosexual MARRIED couples are having sex ONLY missionary, on the bed, with the lights out

You left out that they can have sex ONLY to procreate and not because of the fun factor.

Isn't the biggest difference between Ashcroft and Janet Reno that she is a little taller?

No, I went to bed. :-)

I'm not talking about voting independant. What I'm talking about are the roles were reversed completely. The big two political parties are the Dems and Libertarians, and the Repub's are the biggest third party. Now, would you take your vote and vote Libertarian instead of Republican?

I expect we'll hear essentially the same talk we are now - the GOP has to coopt liberal legislation and not ruffle too many Democrat feathers, because we MUST win the next election. Then in 2004, the GOP has to coopt liberal legislation and not ruffle too many Democrat feathers, because we MUST win the next election.

And so on.

Considering what the Republicans have been doing lately...

I'd say they would implement the demoRat's agenda just a little slower than the Rats. Gotta turn up the heat on the pan slowly so the frog doesn't notice he's being cooked.

This is my take on it. It's all kind of a cause and effect thing: Expect the Republicans to start pushing the Conservative Lite agenda forward. The Media will then scream bloody damned murder, and the Republicans will slink away with their tails between their collective legs! So, basically nothing will really change very much, if any at all. Keep in mind- I'm pretty cynical.

I'm afraid you've probably nailed it. Our Republic is supposed to be based on people voting leaders into office to make decisions on our behalf. It has turned into a bunch of professional pols whose only goal is winning the next election, no matter the cost to the country.

"Because 1% would have made a world of a difference in 2000."

Don't waste your time trying to use facts to persuade a Libertarian Texaggie! These people believe in "Illuminati," and "Druids." These people believe that legalizing drugs will be a great boon to mankind. Facts mean nothing to them. They aren't interested in facts! All they understand is principle. Libertarians will stand on their principles to the point of letting the whole damned country fall down all around them. Such is the nature of their blindness.

You're right. CFR cost us the First Amendment, just to raise their re-election rate above 92%.

All they ( Libertarians ) understand is principle.

Libertarians will stand on their principles.

Well put.

Principles founded in the Constitution and our God-Given Rights

Why would you accept anything less from the "elected" who represent you?
