The conservative Club for Growth has bestowed its first-ever Republican in Name Only (RINO) awards, mocking "Republican office holders around the nation who have advanced egregious anti-growth, anti-freedom or anti-free-market policies."

Tennessee Gov. Don Sundquist's attempts to enact a state income tax made him the RINO of the year, and Rep. Greg Ganske (Iowa) and Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) took honors in the House and Senate, respectively.

This idea has a future and it should not be limited to officeholders. Think of the deserving many who are merely candidates for office like LAMAR!!! or Liddy "Spinning Wheel" Dole. Sitting members of Congress should be in there like Chris Shays, Connie Morella, Nancy Johnson, and others who are eager to be part of the DemonRat Margin of Victory on close votes.

I usually defend Republicans in situations like these, but Sunquist campaigned on a platform not to raise taxes, then tried to have them raised anyway. How can anyone do this after what happened to Bush Sr? I hope he retires from politics; talk about lacking a backbone. As far as the Northeast Republicans, what do you people expect? I see very few Republicans from that region that are conservative; I see others on these posts advocating electing "conservative" Democrats. Concentrate on getting Republicans elected outside of the Northeast and Cali, as in the South, inland West, and some parts of the Midwest, where the conservatives are at, and where a lot of Dems now hold office. If Shays, Johnson, etc, were not in ofc, who else, that is more conservative, would be? If you want to ride the waves, you can't do that on the beach, you have to get into the water. Same with conservatives. We ought to pour our resources into electing Republicans from conservative areas of the country, where conservative voters are located.

Q. "Why did they rob the bank?" A. "That's where the money was!"

Yelp! I posted on another thread that years ago, my high school government teacher predicted that eventually the poitical system in the US would be split Liberal and Conservative.
Here in Indiana we had what we thought was a conservative Democrat only to be swollow up by the Party system. I have conservative Democrat friends who vote for national liberals because they do not know any difference. We need to educate the population on what is liberal and what is conservative. Many of the democrats also don't have enough ***** to stay with their convictions.
Or is it just that the money talks. If you need money for re-election you vote the way the party bosses say?

There are no conservative Democrats. It is pure myth. They campaign in their districts bragging about their conservative viewpoints. After they are elected, they just vote with the other Democrats. Never, ever vote for a Democrats even for local offices. When they grow up to be real politicians, they are still Democrats.

This is true and has been since the 1960s. The Democrat party is CONTROLLED BY SOCIALISTS. aka "Liberals" just a name to make it sound less offensive to Americans. If the sheeple woke up and figured this out, Democrats would never poll above 42% anywhere. But pretendeing to be conservative on some issues and fooling people, as Clinton was so masterful at btw, is their way of gaining nd holding power, in order to move America Leftward.

I agree with the advice: Voting for any Democrat anywhere is poison. Never, ever vote Democrat.

>> Glad to see gov taxquist take the RINO AWARD. He DESERVES IT.

What, for only ONE issue?

In this year alone, our RINO governor in Illinois: continued to DOUBLE our state license "fees", spent taxpayer's money on his SECOND "pander to Castro" trip (he called it a humanitarian campaign for Cuba), voted himself a pay raise while killing funding for state prisons, endorsed a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT to suceed him in office (Paul Vallas), said the "extreme right" of "his" party should "leave and start their own party", gave more interviews to fawn over his continueing (and useless) "moritorium" on the death penalty, sold out to Mayor Daley ONCE AGAIN and endorsed his plan to bulldoze 500 suburban homes for an airport expansion, got some additional funding for Jesse Jackson to promote "Kidcare", attacked ALL THREE of the Republicans running to suceed him (even his liberal Lt. Governor), praised Gov. Gray Davis (D) of California as a model governor, and on, and on, and on...

And this isn't mentioned anything from his first three years in office (supporting taxpayer funded abortion, demand a "gay rights" bill, tried to ban guns, etc.)

Compared to RINO Ryan, Taxquist would actually seem moderate.
