Why oh why doesn't Bush speak out after the Palestinian violence, like the does right after Israel strikes back?

The answer is in Popeye the Sailor girlfriend's last name.

I have observed people asking to close all Mosques and deport all Moslems or followers of Islam. I can't support these measures. I do not believe all Moslems support the violence that has taken place.

Even in Nazi Germany we didn't take all civilians into custody. Yes we did kill a lot of people via bombing missions as part of our efforts to win the war. I don't consider that to be the same as rounding people up and deporting them.

If this wasn't what the poster intended, I'd be willing to revise my comments.

Your point about dismantling the leadership of NAZI GERMANY is a point WELL TAKEN ....THAT is the ONLY WAY WE CAN DEAL WITH THE PALESTINIAN PROBLEM as it exists NOW.....

the ENTIRE PALESTINIAN LEADERSHIP NEEDS TO BE DESTROYED TOP TO BOTTOM!!!! NO EXCEPTION!!!! EVERY PALESTINIAN LEADER NEEDS TO BE OFFED AS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT NOT TO DO TO AMERICA!!!!

It's Holy Week. Is nothing sacred any more?

I think that is the whole point, both to the scheduling of the Arab World Conference in Beruit, and the attack. I expect more attacks as the week goes on, too. Sad, sacreligious and totally by design...

Why don't you go to Israel and volunteer to fight in the IDF -- instead of doing it from the comfort of your living room?

I'm completely sick of this violence over there and am not sure what the solution is. Killing Arafart will only make things worse IMO but I'm not sure I'd be upset if someone did it.

Account12: Sharons apparent weakness in the face of terrorism

SabraAmerican: He is not weak in the face of terrorism. He is weak in the face of American pressure.

Don't blame America. It's a two-way street. America pressures Israel. Israel pressures America. In the end both countries do what is in their own interests anyway. If you ask me, and despite Sharon's protests to the contrary, I'm not really sure Sharon wants to see Arafat go. Arafat is a brutal, corrupt disaster of a leader who won't or can't control the suicide bombers. And the whole world knows it. No one really expects Sharon to negotiate with him, because any agreement with Arafat doesn't mean anything anyway. The last thing Sharon wants to do is to get into actual negotations where the question of the occupied territories is on the table. Because as soon as that happens, Likud pulls out of Sharon's coalition government and he's out of a job. As long as Arafat's around no one (including the U.S.) really blames Sharon for not wanting to negotiate.

Why don't you just stop publishing asinine moral equivalence theories and worse on your website?

And stop projecting your own fear on to others.

Could the moderators please rein in the antiwar.com posse for a little, while FR still have a reputation? It seems they're a little excited. Must be the blood-fog.

If that coalition sees Saudi Arabia, Syria and other nations finally recognize Israel's right to exist, I'd be willing to admit that Bush policies would be better than a quick violent reaction. That being said, I don't think there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening. I don't see Bush as a totally unprincipled individual, but I certainly do disagree with him on this issue.

The IDF is competent as is, Fonzie.

Those who "fight" the hairy dwarf chasing, squinty gargoyles of evil and depravity, also serve.

I wished Bush took very energetic diplomatic steps to end the Intifada and help the Israelis out instead of wining how disappointed he was. If he does no do that he will send a message that TERRORISM WORKS!

=======================================

Your response is foolish but not unexpected. I'm pretty sure an American citizen cannot join a foreign army. To give an opinion on what side to take in a fight, does not mean one needs to physically join the fight.

I could root for the crew of the Apollo 13 to make it home safely without volunteering to get on a ship to go into space on a rescue mission.

I can pray for our troops as they go into dangerous caves without having to be there. We are allowed to do that.

I used to think you were just foolish after reading a few of your articles. If people actually read what you write and are influenced, you are actually dangerous.

I'll say it again if you need to hear it. Terrorist scum have again killed innocent civilians and defiled their own religion. WE DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR CRAP!

I know what you're saying, mafree. We've been told by several knowledgeable types that the death of Arafat would make things worse, but I wonder how much worse that could be right now. What would things be like without Arafat, if the Israelis, after enormous provocation, took him out? If they leave him alone, they can only expect this to continue and this is intolerable.

DoughtyOne:Why oh why doesn't Bush speak out after the Palestinian violence, like the does right after Israel strikes back?

Lazarus LLong: For the sake of holding together the ill-advised coalition of us and the Arab-terrorist states. A real principled man, that Dubya.

By the time an issue gets to the desk of the president, it's never a matter of his having to make a great choice or a lousy one. What presidents do is choose between bad options and worse ones. We elected Bush to do what's best for America. And I believe he's trying to do that. If a word from an American president would make a suicide bomber get off the bus, go home and take off his bomb belt I'm sure Bush would do that. If a terrorist thinks that Allah wants him to blow himself up he's not going to forego that ecstasy just to please the U.S. president.
