The Republicans refused to harp on the allegations, instead they pretended to be above it. Privately they hoped for the Clintons to fall, but publicly they preferred to ignore the questions. The Democrats called the charges and allegations political, and by the Republicans not pounding on the vulnerability, Clinton escaped. Republicans only had to send speaker after speaker to the talk shows, in interviews to newspapers, and buy political ads in tv, radio and other places, they could have changed opinion, but they are/were weak. Ironically, by holding their tongues, they lost the battle for the minds of America. Most Americans believe the charges against Clinton, were entirely political. IMO, they deserve to be a 2nd tier organization, they belong in the same place as the Whigs. The current leaders are still following this same game plan, compromise and get along, all the while getting nothing in return but a kick in the teeth.

Why can't someone leak the documents? Our enemies in the world probably have copies, and we the people can't see them.

I think the message I would like to send to New Jersey voters across the state is that I am the independent counsel who brought that investigation to an end in a credible way with real results accomplished, first, to vindicate the principle that no person, including the former president of the United States, was above the law.

Ray is a bumbling, idiotic fool! How can he even hope to imagine that he will have any conservative support.

I think the only thing I can say is that unlike the female victims on to which Clinton forced himself, Clinton seduced Ray and once again screwed the country.

Because, if you had access to it, you might demand something be done. And, they (politicians that are just as guilty) don't want anything done. Doing so would probably expose them to prosecution as well. Can't have that, now , can we ?

I can't believe I'm saying this, but he just might convince me to vote for Torricelli out of spite.

That's the trouble with being country club Republicans. To get along, go along. I haven't seen any expressions of gratitude from the Demon_rats. There was a time when the GOP had them on the run. But that was under Reagan.

The "Authority & Prestige" of the OFFICE of the President of the United States has value to our Nation FAR ABOVE the failings of its occupant.

Funny how this argument didn't work for Nixon.

You cannot really believe what you write.

Nixon's was a failure on an intellectual level--Clinton failed on a personality/morality/primal urge level.

Hixon MIGHT be bribed---Clinton could EASILY be Blackmailed!

Their failings are ORDERS of MAGNITUDE apart.

Nixon was an embarrassment; Clinton was an UTTER HUMILIATION!

Has anyone figured out why allegations of rape would be relevant to the articles of impeachment? I certainly don't see it.

I'd be pissed at the women who did not press charges against Clinton at the appropriate time.

If I had access to these records, I would copy them down and give them to the NYT, the Enquirer, the Washington Post or whoever would pay my legal expenses to defend me at trial. The only problem is the New York Times would probably buy the rights to them, trash the copies and help imprison me for the duration of the embargo (46 years)

What was the Republicans' excuse?

I'm surprised no one has come up with the obvious answer: 900+ FBI files in the hands of the Clintons!
The Republiboobs didn't want their own perversions and peccadilloes bought to public attention.

Oh please!

These files have been used as an excuse for everything. Do you really think there are not honest/moral Republicans who are not blackmail material?

And I do not limit my comments to those in Congress. Where were the governors et al.?

How about we ask Hilliary? I'd say the public has a right to know just what she was enabling all that time in the White House.

I'll be 104. Let's see now, the Old Man is 95 and going strong. He has an excellent chance at hitting the big C note. Geez, I just might get to read those files.

Think anybody will listen to us old geezers screaming, "I told you so!" from our walkers?

Or will it be a blank look and a "Who?"

Why do the Democrats get someone who will indict a paperclip and release the news just before election and we get a cover-up artist who cannot find anything wrong with a traitor, a rapist, a drug addict, a peculator?

Because the leftist press will hail the Dem attack dog as an effective prosecutor just doing his job, and nail our guy as a partisan perverted right-wing extremist just trying to get the President by looking into his bedroom.

Identifying the Chief Executive as a raping, snorting, perjuring, sexually predatory, treasonous, trial tampering criminal kinda casts a pall over his promise to "faithfully execute the laws of the United States", wouldn't you say?

This is why Washington stated (paraphrasing) Let none but decent and moral men hold this office.

Unless the documents in the Ford Building directly pertained to the specific articles of impeachment, they were irrelevant to the impeachment trial.

You are so right! I have a friend who said "clinton is bad but he can't be considered as bad as Nixon." I wanted to smack her!
