Unbelievable!

Download the bullet points of the Markey Nuclear Reactor Security Report...includes:

The Report Indicates:
1.) The NRC does not know how many foreign nationals are employed at nuclear reactors...
2.) 21 US nuclear reactors are located within 5 miles of an airport, but 96% of all US reactors were designed without regard for the potential for impact from even a small aircraft
3.) Spent nuclear fuel in significant quantities exists at reactors all across the US and is stored in buildings that are not hardened structures, some of which reportedly have sheet metal roofs
4.) It took the NRC almost 6 months after 9/11 to requre enhanced security at nuclear reactors

and more...

Good Lord. It is very believeable. Nuclear plants are power producing stations, not military fortresses. Of course they aren't hardened...they're expensive enough as it is.

Sorry, but this is all FUD. Most of these plants were made 20 years ago. Hmm... Gosh, I guess they should've been psychic. Heck, the builders of the WTC buildings in NY should be sued because they didn't provide adequate design considerations for fully fueled commerical aircraft nailing them just so.

You go ahead and get a lawyer. I'll watch.

"3.) Spent nuclear fuel in significant quantities exists at reactors all across the US and is stored in buildings that are not hardened structures, some of which reportedly have sheet metal roofs"

Doesn't this support the decision to store the waste in Nevada?

FIRST: Markey is a nobody in Congress who obviously wants to take the shortest route to becoming a "name" in politics.

SECOND: He's 100% ANTI-Nuclear power

THIRD: Anyone who thinks that the Bush Administration has somehow overlooked our Nuclear Plants and every possible scenerio for terrorists to involve them is the same kind of nitwit as a certain nobody congressman who took SEVEN MONTHS FOLLOWING 9/11 to think that our Nuclear Plants could be a target of terrorists.

Markey is an anti-nuke politician who want to federalize half the free world.

Totally irrelevant if the facts bulleted above are true. Tis the message that matters in this case, not the messenger, and I have no trouble believe our government is this inept. Do you? Look at the reports coming out about post-9/11 airport security. Success in exercises of taking guns and fake bombs through security checkpoints. Our government is broken. It is a self-feeding and self-crippling bloated bureaucracy which cares only about its own survival. This is sadly true of both major parties and every branch. Nearly seven months later, I still remain dumbfounded at what a joke our security must be to have allowed four airliners to have been hijacked within the space of an hour and then used to kill thousands of our fellow citizens.

A video surfaced to help us Nevadans fight Yucca Mtn. Nuclear Storage. It shows those casks that they store the spent fuel in being hit by a handheld rocket launcher. It punctured the tank, despite the scientists protests to the contrary.

Then what do you do about chemical plants, refineries, stadiums, etc...

We can't live nor should we in a bunkered world. We can hunt down and destroy those who choose to threaten us with great vengeance.

I am from Massachusetts, and you sir are way to kind. Markey is a typical, feral, hack that bought, talked and payed his way from small town hack to that august body, Congress. He is so dumb, he wouldn't know a fuel rod from a golf club. He is voted in by legions of elderly ss serfs and a equal number of organized crime, known as town and state paycheck drawers( I'd never call them workers.).

Refresh my memory -- I think Markey was the one who decided cable TV operators were ripping off the public (can't argue with that!), but once his sponsored "reforms" went through, cable prices (around here anyway) rose by almost 50%.

I agree. Obviously the NRC has been sitting on its hindquarters if it hasn't even checked staff since 9/11.

OTOH, everyone of these plants sits in a state, and a local area as well. Where are the state governments and city councils? Are they sitting back waiting for the feds to do everything?

Had I been on a city council, I'd have been pushing for answers and demanding surveys, etc. on my desk by the end of the first week. No one can prepare for everything, but you can sure check for foriegn nationals everywhere in your infrastructure. You can meet with the heads of all the utilities, etc. and get the ball rolling.
