The director of the Fresno airport has been suspended for skirting security before he boarded a jet, forcing dozens of passengers to be rescreened after they landed in Texas.
Charles Hayes said he "totally screwed up" by not passing through metal detectors at Fresno Yosemite International Airport on March 14 when he left for a Federal Aviation Administration meeting in Washington.
City Manager Dan Hobbs placed Hayes on paid leave Friday pending the conclusion of an investigation.
Hayes said he was late for American Airlines Flight 406 and didn't realize his violation until after the plane landed at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on the first leg of the flight to Washington.
Passengers were taken off the plane and bused to the terminal for another screening, a Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport spokesman said.
Randy Reed, a Fresno city spokesman, said Monday he didn't know yet why the passengers weren't rescreened before they reached Dallas.
Heard a story on talk radio today that entertainer Donny Osmond was required to drop his trousers to get through airport security recently. The security guy then asked for his autograph.
I know quite a number of people who will not "run the gauntlet" at DCA.
I dunno... I suppose that's some kind of a sanction to a highly paid government employee, but I'd take all the paid leave my boss would give me.
