Excuse me, but no black kids in my school had to endure one fifth of the ridicule I went through when Laugh-In was on TV and featured the Farkle Family. You have NO IDEA how horrible it was for me, the tallest, palest, brightest-haired target in town (so it seemed when I was 12) but that's okay. I guess it only hurts and holds him back if someone calls a kid a racist name. All the kids who live through the fatso, ugly, funny-looking, retarded, clumsy, egghead and other remarks for years have secondary misery to YOURS. How compassionate you are.
But enough of that - I am completely over it. I don't want sympathy, special treatment or recognition for surviving the Farkle Family years. Not will I give anyone my age any special sympathy for living through the slavery and oppression years.... because they are SO over!
Don't turn on E!. Halle is on. She never thought a black person would win in her lifetime. She broke the glass ceiling wide open.
Well I am glad we didn't have to wait 50 years for this moment. We are all the vessels for which these blessings flow.

Just because I say something about one kind of oppression doesn't mean I'm unaware of other kinds. I know what redheads have had to endure but there were no "redhead" restrooms or water fountains sanctioned by the law were there?
