Quick question:

Did you know that she was biracial before you learned she had a white mother? There are plenty of blacks who are just as light or lighter than Berry yet have two black parents. Keep in mind that it was her white mom who told her that she would be seen as a black woman...no one would certainly mistake her for a white person.

I am very glad for both Halle and Denzel tonight! I am also glad that good things - really major, remarkable things - have happened for people of color under the Bush administration.

The Democrats win elections by stirring up the "us v. them" mentality anywhere they can. And this year, with the historical appointments of Colin Powell and Condi Rice - and now, both top awards in the Oscar going this way ... it might help people realize that this administration will try to tear down every such wall.

I would like to thank the Academy for voting us the most successful live thread. Without all of you, I could never have broken the 2000 post barrier. I want to thank God, my parents, my agent Mort, my dogs Sophie and Riley, and IBM for supplying all my computing needs for this to be possible.

I accept this award not just for me, but for all Freepers and redheads. I am the vessel for which all long threads can come forth.

Thank you, and God Bless America.

Did the actors have red, white and blue ribbons for the dead, BTW?

Or an American Flag on their lapels with all their drivel about patriotism? They're all simply playing a role.

Thanks for the info. I know that he is looking at making a PC version of THE ALAMO and considering Alec Baldwin for Col. Travis. That makes me puke. But he doesn't seem to get in our faces with his politics. He is a good guy and I'm happy for him. I really don't mind people having a different political opinion. I do mind, however, when they think it was okay to have a rapist and traitor in our White House and we, the political right, are the bad guys for not finding that acceptable. Clinton, that evil SOB, has really divided this nation. He had to in order to maintain his power. He had to make us the enemy and get his kneepad minions to circle the wagons.

At least pillage another village.

Hobbits don't pillage villages, unless Whoopie Goldberg is mayor!

Halle is a beauty with a lot of drive and talent.

But she nurses a lot of bitterness, and is very immature.

Hope she snaps out it. Instead, I expect to hear her complain about how some people thing she was handed the Oscar because of her race.

race shouldn't influence the oscars....just in case Halle doesn't realize it, she won because she was the best actress.

You're right- race shouldn't influence the Oscars but it has. I think Halle knows she's being recognized for talent and not for color.

She thinks her win broke a barrier, but you've got to be good, not black, to be nominated. She was good and deserved to win because of her talents, not her color. Ditto with Denzel. Both were deserving actors. I don't see where color has kept anyone from winning/ being nominated. May the best actors win!

Halle's win did break a barrier but that doesn't mean talent should not remain the criteria for these awards.

Ron Howard and most of his family have been in the business a lot of years and I'm glad he won. Anybody but Altman...

It should have been Russell Crowe or Sean Penn.

As much as I dislike Sean Penn's politics I have to agree with you. I say if not Crowe, than Penn should have won, with Denzel being perhaps third of fourth.

All humans have equal potential. Any difference among peoples is purely cultural.

You are right.
