A Sad Story
E-mail | March 19,2002 | Robert Harris

This past Christmas, I was rushing around trying to get some holiday shopping done. It was cold and wet in the parking lot as I was loading up my car. I heard a quiet sobbing coming from the walkway by the mall entrance.

The crying was coming from a poorly dressed boy of about 12 years old. He was short and thin. He had no coat. He was just wearing a flannel shirt to protect him from the cold chill.

Oddly enough, he was holding a ten dollar bill in his hand. Thinking that he had gotten lost from his parents, I asked him what was wrong. He told me his sad story. He said that he had 2 brothers and 1 sister and his mother worked two full time jobs. She made very little money to support her family. Nevertheless, she had managed to save twenty dollars to buy her

children some Christmas presents.

The young boy had been dropped off by his mother on her way to work. He

was to use the twenty dollars to buy presents for all his siblings and save

just enough to take the bus home. He had not even entered the mall when an

older boy grabbed one of the ten dollar bills and disappeared into the mall.

"Why didn't you scream for help?" I asked.

The boy said, "I did."

"And nobody came to help you?" I queried.

The boy stared at the sidewalk and sadly shook his head.

"How loud did you scream?" I inquired.

The soft-spoken boy looked up and meekly whispered, "Help me!"

I realized that absolutely no one could have heard that poor boy cry for

help.

So I grabbed his other ten dollar bill and ran to my car.

Signed, Enron Executive

Signed, Enron Executive

I've seen this hundreds of times before, only it was signed by a liberal Democrat.

"Signed, Enron Executive"

The other Enron employees aren't pissed because Enron scammed them - they are pissed because they weren't in on the scam.
They were pretty happy when thier employee savings accounts were rocketing through the roof - well, the other side of that is...

I think people who have too much time on their hands and make up these stories to manipulate others, are as criminal as any other crook.
I save my tears now (and my cash) for real people with real stories.

These stories just make me angry now. Manipulative losers...

"BTW, this story is a major "gotcha"."

It made the rounds in my office last month, an obvious (left-wing) joke.
Yea, the Republicans want to starve children, kick old people out on the streets, and dump oil in "pristine" artic zones - and blah, blah, woof, woof...
