ALEC BALDWIN IN THE RUNNING TO BE CAST AS COL. WILLIAM B. TRAVIS IN RON HOWARD'S "THE ALAMO"
KPRC RADIO 950 HOUSTON TEXAS ^ | 3-20-02 | 43for8

I heard today that A-List Film Director Ron Howard is considering casting B-movie has-been, idiot liberal, Alec "bullwhip" Baldwin as Col. William B. Travis in the movie "The Alamo" to be filmed in Texas. Howard met with Texas Governor Rick Perry in Austin earlier this week regarding the movie and the history of the Alamo. Radio talk show host Chris Baker said he heard from some of his hollywood friends that the plan to cast Baldwin as Travis was seriously being considered.

This would be terrible. I don't know what is meant be "freeping". But if it means contacting Ron Howard and letting him know what a huge mistake this would be for his movie--instant box office death--straight to video,etc.--we need to let him know NOW before he wastes his money.

Since Travis (Austin) is the only liberal county in Texas, I'd say his casting is oddly apropos.

I saw a report about this movie. It is to include the "bad sides" of the heros (like bigotry, slave owning ect) and the point of view of the Mexicans.

Will there be a spot for Alec Baldwin in this production?

Jim Bowie. Hmm, nah, make him Travis or Houston. Have _David_ Bowie as Jim Bowie.

Alec Baldwin should star in "Remember the A la mode."

You know, I refused to see 'Pearl Harbor' when I heard this clymer was playing Jimmy Dolittle. Now this.
It's like having CarrotTop portraying Audie Murphy.

From jam! Shoebiz

Ron Howard, the Oscar-nominated director of "A Beautiful Mind," is scouting Texas locations for a proposed film retelling of the battle of The Alamo, Variety reports.

Howard hasn't indicated whether his next project will be a restaging of the historical epic, but he held a press conference in the Lone Star State Monday with Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the report said.

The project is based on a screenplay by acclaimed writer/director John Sayles ("Lone Star," "Eight Men Out"). Howard said that, unlike the 1960 gung-ho John Wayne version of the story, his film would focus on all sides of the Alamo conflict.

The project would take a poke at some sacred American heroes, including details of William Barret Travis' infidelities, Jim Bowie's slave trading, and Davy Crockett's "overall political incorrectness," Variety said.

"I believe audiences are ready to embrace the complexities of the film, but it still boils down to heroism," Howard told Variety.

"The simplistic approach is not appropriate and it's not interesting. We know there will be limitations and controversies."

The film was originally scheduled to begin shooting this summer near Austin and in North Carolina, but the time needed to build huge sets could push back the start, the report said.

Howard is also working to convince the studio that the film needs to be shot in Texas, rather than in cheaper locales in Canada.

Sounds like it needs freeping.

Alec might go over to Mexico's "Boy's Town" and never be heard from again.

Baldwin has already played Travis, in a movie about the Alamo made around 1987. James Arness played Bowie, and I think Brian Keith (or Dennehy) played Crockett. I suspect this story is just a garbled memory of that film. Anyway, it's too late: Baldwin's already done Travis.

I have been boycotting Hollywood in general for years, but the sight of scores of today's effeminite, America-hating "actors" dressing up in the uniforms of real heroes makes me increasingly nauseous.

I trust Howard on this aspect but in a world of "image" the moment Baldwin appears you can throw heroism out the window. I vote Tommy Lee Jones. He might have roomed with a "giant slore" but he's a Texan and he's got guts.

LOL. Maybe they can find roles for Pat Buchanan, Mike Savage and Rush Limbaugh if they want "politically incorrect".

Perhaps it will end with an urge to Texas to give back the Rio Grande territory.
