President Bush: Please Bring Ted Maher Home From Banana-Republic Monaco!

American Green Beret veteran and accomplished neonatal nurse Ted Maher has now been held 537 days without trial in Monaco's prison on trumped-up and false charges -- charges of causing the deaths of billionaire banker Edmond Safra and Ted's fellow nurse, Vivian Torrente on December 3, 1999. In truth, Ted fought valiantly against two armed, masked intruders to defend Edmond and Vivian and save their lives. During the struggle, Ted suffered severe knife wounds that required one hundred staples to close.

Billionaire banker Edmond Safra was cooperating with the FBI, who was investigating the IMF/Russian loans. Needing a convenient scapegoat for the murder of Safra, Monaco police subjected Ted to three days of grueling torture designed to extort a false confession from him. (see description in "BASIC TIMELINE" in Thread 1 - http://206.112.97.70/forum/a3ad8b097272d.htm ).

Monaco continues to hold Ted incommunicado, preventing him from sending or receiving mail. In fact, they restrict his communication with his family to one telephone call a week. This call is only allowed to last a few minutes and is always monitored closely to prevent any discussion of the case. Ted is forced by his jailers to take a psychotropic medication and is regularly "interrogated" by the Monaco judge -- Patricia Richet. Reports have been received that Judge Richet is a violent person who has displayed unstable behavior in the past. She allegedly has a history of assaulting a fellow judge, putting him in the hospital for a week. She also tears up letters from Ted's children in front of Ted rather than let him read them.

Hundreds of family, friends, work associates, parents of patients, and Army veterans who served with Ted have vouched for him as being a loyal husband, loving father, and an exemplary professional of great skill and compassion. Ted has also been defended by then-chairman of the House International Relations Committee Ben Gilman and Ted's congresswoman Sue Kelly, who have written Prince Rainier III of Monaco on Ted's behalf. Monaco has no evidence of any crime by Ted; they have no witnesses and no credible case against him. Even worse, Monaco has planted false evidence and suppressed vast amounts of exculpatory evidence -- even passing a special Monaco law that enables them to hold Ted four years without trial.

The Geneva prosecutor has said that Safra was killed for his cooperation with the FBI regarding the laundering through Safra's Republic National Bank of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia.

Regardless of the reason "why," it is obvious that Ted Maher is a scapegoat for a murder by others. We are working to obtain his release and to correct the grave injustice being done to an American Green beret veteran and medical professional.

Ted should be released--it's that simple.

As he explained December 8, 1999, to U.S. Consul Patricia Feitz,

"What I do, I do for the safety of my family."

A false confession under duress, obtained by threats upon his family.

The current charge--by the lying prosecutor Daniel Serdet (who slanders with a provably false drug charge)--

Requires intent to harm--absent in fact, even absent in the fiction of the extorted false confession.

To the three-day beat, the interrogation without attorney present, the interception of client-attorney correspondence, the invented coverup, the planted evidence, the slander of officials, the muzzling of the defendant,

Add the absence of intent to harm.

The intent was to alert the rescue personnel--as the police were derelict in refusing to respond to repeated emergency calls.

How convenient that they "lost" just that night's emergency call tape.

In Monaco, is is not is--viz. the kangaroo appellate hearing:

In a matter of 8 weeks, my husband, Ted Maher, will be held three years without a trial for the wrongful deaths of Vivian Torrente and Edmond Safra in Monaco, France. Over a thousand days in mostly solitary confinement for a crime he did not commit.

I am not asking you to take my word for this. I am asking you to look at the DNA evidence (excludes my husband from both bodies), fire report (shows multiple fires starting one hour AFTER my husband was rushed to the hospital for surgery), drug tests (shows my husband was "negatif" for all drugs and alcohol), and autopsy results.

My husband was forced to sign a false confession by extortion. Monaco police held Ted in four-point restraint for three days. Ted was catheterized, sleep-deprived, and threatened during this time. This can be confirmed by Tricia Fietz, American Consulate in Marseilles, France (but she has like many soon to follow Consulates in France "left her position").

Monaco police kidnapped myself and my brother off the streets of Monaco. I have given a deposition on this and am currently pursuing this in court. My US Passport was stolen, using it to pressure Ted to sign their already typed false confession in French which he does not read, write, or speak. The Monaco police threatened to detain me indefinitely, telling Ted that they were "strip-searching and torturing me" (also told to me by Patricia Fietz). I was held for three days before I escaped with my brother.

Monaco police showed Ted photos of our three children, photos taken in the rural New York setting of our home, taken with no one's knowledge. Monaco police played recordings of the children's voices as well, as part of the torture.

Having thus obtained Ted's signature on their false confession, Georges Blot and Donald Manasse were the Monaco-appointed defense attorneys. They have (for over 1020 days) insisted Ted stick to the false confession, to reaffirm it at every interrogation by magistrate, every hearing.

Monaco prosecutor Daniel Serdet told Time's Thomas Sancton that Ted was using drugs--but, Monaco's Princess Grace Memorial Hospital tested Ted and found him negatif negatif negatif for drugs and alcohol (I have the original hospital copy of this). I have a file of 200-plus letters from family, friends, fellow soldiers (Special Forces 1978-81), medical colleagues (Ted was a neonatal nurse at Columbia Presbyterian), patients' parents, neighbors to the point that he has never used drugs.

Sancton used three persons in his initial story (December 20, 1999) who are bogus: the first wife declared by the court to be an unfit mother (Ted had full custody of the child since birth), a neighbor known to police as a frequently jailed nuisance, and a landlord who never rented to Ted (this can be proven with work and college records).

The smear of Ted and scapegoating in a ridiculous fabricated plot conceals the actual details of Safra's death. It is maintained for no other reason.

The Monaco police failed to respond to calls for help--they have since managed to "lose" their emergency call tape for just this day, the 3d of December, 1999. But they have the tapes for the 2d and the 4th. Video tapes of the penthouse have "disappeared." My husband's clothes for that night have "disappeared" and been replaced with a clean jogging suit without cuts or blood (Ted was knifed and required emergency surgery and almost 100 staples-yet the outfit has no speck of blood).

Ted used a scented candle, one which was always burning to mask Safra's diarrhea, to set off a smoke detector to summon help. This alarm was noted in the fire report as having occurred at 4:54 a.m.

Ted was rushed to the hospital immediately thereafter. Yet the fire report describes "a sudden conflagration at 6 a.m." and notes multiple sources of ignition. None of this was done by Ted. There is also a clear "bomb" detonated in the basement after Ted left that is reported in the fire report.

Firemen were not allowed to reach Edmond Safra and Vivian Torrent until 7:45 a.m.--nearly three hours after the first alarm.

The autopsy notes infusion of blood of Vivian's thyroid and other infusions termed "bruising" yet states her cause of death as "asphyxiation." She was spattered with Edmond's blood, yet he, too, is said to have died from "asphyxiation."

Lily Safra's (Edmond's wife) second husband Alfredo "Freddy" Monteverde "shot himself twice in the heart" in Brazil in 1976 to leave her 210 million. Lily had changed Edmond's will just a week before his death-increasing her inheritance, leaving her the richest woman in the world. She changed their citizenship to Monegasque, finalized the very night before Edmond Safra's death.

It was Lily Safra who sent all 60 of the security team to the palatial La Leopolda estate, leaving Edmond unprotected (Her testimony). This is unheard of. Mr. Safra had Mossad-trained guards always on duty, especially the last couple months before his death due to multiple death threats. He was cooperating with the FBI over money laundering claims at the bank he owned. His bank was due to sell within days of his death.

Dr. Michael Baden the noted forensic and DNA expert has concluded that Vivian Torrente did not die of smoke inhalation, rather strangulation. Mr. Safra's blood was found on Vivian's body, yet no mention of blood on his "very clean" autopsy. There is male DNA (not Ted's) found under Mr. Safra's nails and Vivian Torrente's neck. DNA evidence on both bodies EXCLUDE Ted.

Dominick Dunne, the famous writer for Vanity Fair, told Larry King in July of this year that he is "working every month on behalf of Ted Maher." Dunne was just proven correct in his conclusions regarding the Moxley-Skakel case.

Lily threw a 150,000 pound Renaissance party for 300 guests who paid 5,000 pounds each to attend--this included Prince Charles and Camilla and Elton John. She uses Howard Rubinstein for her publicity and he does the public relations for the New York Post. Neal Travis used to routinely slander Ted and laud Lily--but he has recently died of cancer.

It's gone all Monaco's way as a result of power, not fact. Where fact has been exculpatory, it has been suppressed or altered or ignored. Recently the Supreme Court in Monaco has denied any reduction of charges, or release of Ted even though the evidence is overwhelming in favor of my husband.

Henry Kissinger said at the time of Safra's death that it was done by someone capable of a cruel and vindictive act. The chief prosecutor of Geneva said Safra was killed for cooperating with the FBI regarding the laundering through Republic of $4.8 billion in IMF loans to Russia. Anne Williamson author of Contagion said she knew Ted was a scapegoat. Amy Waters Yarsinske who fought to keep the Scott Speicher case alive is now working on Ted's case.

An honorable Green Beret veteran, loyal husband, loving father and caring and compassionate medical professional is wrongly imprisoned on an extorted false confession--in his third year, without trial and prohibited mail, phone or visitors.

Ted is looking at life imprisonment. My children are counting on you to bring their daddy home. They ask about Ted every night. Please don't let this be the fourth Christmas without their Daddy.
