SACRAMENTO (AP) - A bound, strangled body pulled from a Sierra foothill lake last fall was identified Tuesday as that of a Los Angeles-area real estate developer. Authorities believe Meyer Muscatel was one of multiple victims of a Los Angeles-area Russian mafia group that has dumped Muscatel and at least four others into New Melones Lake near Modesto in the Central Valley.

Investigators located the fifth body Tuesday under a bridge straddling the lake....though some injury could have been caused by hitting the water. They must have been thrown from the bridge.
This is definitley Condit country...look they named a hilltop after him....

No. The guy was a land developer, so it's possible that the Russian mafia was trying to force him to grant contracts to their boys. There's no proof yet the guy was a MEMBER of the Russian mafia.

There are many groups, some ethnic Chechen, others former KGB or other ex and current military and security personel. They surely have Jewish members but to say that they are 95% Jewish is a stretch. There may be more "Jewish Russian Mafia" in the US then in Russia because of Visa restrictions, but not 95%.
As to the victims association with the Mafia, he probably had none. He was meeting new business associates just before he was killed. My guess is that it was simple extortion. They told him to pay them $100,000 or whatever, or they would kill him. He tried to but couldn't come up with the money fast enough so they killed him.

First of all there is no "the RUSSIAN MAFIA". Come on! The term was used -- in Moscow, by Russians -- as long ago as the early 1980s. (Was there. Heard it.)

I think you will see some national news coverage soon. Paul Harvey mentioned it today, even if he mispronounced it. It's New Melones (Mel-lone-ee's) Reservoir.

The Mafia is patient when it comes to that stuff. Better to get money rather than a body. He probably owed some money. When he couldn't produce it within a proper timeframe, they took him for a scape round the Dinsdale's place.
