The two things you can always count on out of Torricelli is to go dirty early, and to do whatever it takes to win.

Phil, I'd like to use this on the air tomorrow for "The Department of Brain-Dead Politicians."

Now let's see. Senator ("Loose Lips") Leahy, who lost his security clearance for blabbing top secret information, also said in 1997, "the Constitution says nothing about the Senate Judiciary Committee, only the Senate" in explaining why the whole Senate should vote on all nominations for judicial positions.

Now, of course, that is President Bush's position, and the ever-consistent Senator is supporting the opposite position. But that's not the worst of his sins. He is now carrying the water for Senator Robert ("the cur dog from New Jersey") Torricelli, who should be headed for a federal penetentiary, rather than running for Senate again, but still faces his own Senate "Ethics" Committee complaint for taking bribes.

Even Senator Leahy's hometown paper in Vermont has accused him of sullying the Senate with his tactics on the Judiciary Committee, to which Leahy responded by repeating the lies that constitute the character assassination of Judge Charles Pickering.

And THIS Senator, on behalf of THIS other Senator, dares to even mouth the word "investigation" in front of God and everybody where lightning might strike him dead?

Did I miss any salient points about this man who by custom but not qualification should be addressed by the word "Honorable"?

The Republicans should have been prepared for this. The counter: The Department of Justice announces that it will consider the prosecution of Senator Hillary Clinton, et. al., in selling pardons.

You are assuming the Republicans have the cajones to go after hitlery. I like your idea but wouldn't bet on it.

It will be interesting to see what kind of legs this story grows with the "mainstream".
Looks like a liberal millipede in the making.

Those of you that know me know I'm an NJ resident, and I hate Toricelli.

Having said that, I can't say that I blame him at all for this. Not saying it's right, or fair, or anything but gutter politics, but we all know that politics is a dirty game, and Ray should have expected this.

I think what really gets my goat is I know deep down, there isn't a single Republican with the balls to take advantage of political realities, and if the show was on the other foot, the Dem would be getting a free ride.

It's true ... Newt at his best would shake their thrones (and Dick Armey) but who are are our standard-bearers and where are they?
