European Parliament Votes on Report to Condemn Catholic Church

BRUSSELS, Belgium, (Zenit.org).- The European Parliament on Tuesday is poised to debate a report that condemns the Catholic Church for its moral principles and its position on women priests.

The document, written by Spanish Socialist María Izquierdo Rojo, was approved last October by the Women´s Rights Commission and analyzed subsequently by the Citizens´ Liberties and Rights Commission.

Among other things, the document condemns "the administrations of religious organizations and the leaders of extremist political movements who promote racial discrimination, xenophobia, fanaticism and the exclusion of women from leading positions in the political and religious hierarchy." The report could be voted on this Wednesday.

The report also deplores "the interference of the churches and religious communities in the public and political life of the state, in particular when such interference is designed to restrict human rights and fundamental freedoms, for instance, in the sexual or reproductive sphere."

The European chamber´s principle would thus deny the Catholic Church the right to proclaim the moral doctrine it has always preached.

The proclamation of religious truths is guaranteed by Article 10 of the European Union´s Charter of Fundamental Rights, on "Liberty of Thought, Conscience and Religion."

The attacks on the Catholic Church in the European Union are coming fast and furious.

It was only a matter of time. The socialists have other plans too. Which is why they've been so desparate to centralize power.

Howdy

It is a blessing, any institution repugnant to the socialists perpetuating the lamentable tradition of european totalitarianism is endorsed as a force for good in the world.

Know evil by the enemies it chooses to fight, and therefore know good by its persecution at the hands of the forces of evil.

Someone should print statements by the EU on toilet paper and sell it-- bound to be a money-maker.

I wonder if this is a hoax. The author's name translates as Red Left Mary. Anyone care enough to find the primary sources?

This is such typical nonsensical bureaucratese. Haven't they learned what the state religion of atheism has wrought? At the same time they, the state, are trying to interfere in the life of the churches and religious communities.

The Committee that enforces the UN women's treaty is heading down this same road. That is just one reason why the US should never ratify it. BTW, to the poster who mentioned Islam, the leftists at the UN routinely condemn it.

Is this report confirmed? I have seen a few other articles that hint at similar things, but nothing this explicit and direct. If this is true, it should be huge news.

All Christians, not just the Catholic Church, should be mobilizing protests around the world if this report is true.

This is not a hoax.

I wish it were a hoax, but Marîa Izquierdo Rojo is an establish member of PSOE (Spanish Socialist Worker Party), and she is a sitting member of the European Parliament. Would that she were a cartoon character, but she is very real -- as real as ebola.

. Who died and made these fools think they are God? The Catholic Church has always had and always WILL have the right to proclaim moral doctrine because that right comes from GOD not man. Just because the liberal hacks in the EU don't like it, tuffsky sh*tsky!

I'll bet it would already have been introduced under a Gore administration--probably proposed by a Senator from NY or CA. And most of the "Catholics" in Congress would have signed on.

Seems the EU is positioning itself as the enemy of the Church. They also don't seem to care who knows. Interesting.
