Deputy Commander of Palestinian Elite Force Killed in Ramallah

GAZA, Mar 13, 2002 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Deputy Commander of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Force 17 bodyguard, Abu Fadih, was killed Wednesday in a fierce battle with Israeli troops in the West Bank city of Ramallah, Palestinian security officials confirmed.

It was one of Israel's largest military operations in two decades in the major Palestinian city, as dozens of tanks patrolled the streets and about 20,000 Israeli soldiers were involved in the move, said Israel's Channel 1 television on Tuesday.

The raid met tenacious resistance, including a fight-back from Force 17, an elite Palestinian force, whose main duty is to safeguard Arafat's personal security.

At least eight Palestinians were killed in the midnight shoot- out which lasted till Wednesday morning.

The Israeli side Tuesday declared that the goal of the military action was to cleanse what they call terrorist groups and disarm them.

This is really good news..I was so worried that the Israeli Air Force, tank corps, helicopters, and trained infantry would have trouble those harden Palistinian rock throwers. Vistory was assured when the Israeli Navy was victorious against the mighty Palistinian navy. Let the American media show what is really happening in the camps and a lot of us will change our view..the more people Sharon kills, the longer this thing lasts..I also think Arafat has to go

Not sure I understanding where you're coming from. Are you implying that the bloodshed is Sharon's fault...and not the fault of the Palestinians?

of course he thinks that, he also thinks that the US should leave poor ol' Osama alone. He always blames the victim apparently. Remember the 5 students killed at that school?? He probably thought that was a legitimate target because it was like an ROTC school. The pizza place?? legitimate since there were young men who would probably become soldiers someday.

Of course he could just be anti-semitic but I don't go around name calling =o)

Yeah--the only problem they had was singling out the ones with the TNT strapped around their wastes from the rest of the shopping mall patrons. Chicken dung terrorists.

You seem to be under the influence of a common ethical fallacy - namely that the party who cries the loudest or tugs the heartstrings the most or is the weakest must be the aggrieved party.

Are you suggesting that the Israelis should then just throw rocks or recruit suicide bombers just to be fair?

Was he killed by the Judean Peoples Front or the Peoples Front of Judea?

Good points! Or maybe he would prefer Israel send car bombs into the Pallie territories as a response.

Some of the people who Israel went after in these refugee camps. They have guns not rocks and they use them. Dozens of these demons of the Jihad got killed by Israel as they fired on Israeli troops in the camps. These punks lose when not trying to gun down women and civilians>>>

Yes...big brave men who hide behind women's skirts and only fight unarmed children! May God bless Israel.

You mean the ones who sell all those snuff videos in their mosques? You know--the ones where they delight in various methods of torture before they kill their victims? Or is it the ones who make their "goodbye" tapes before they go on their sacred suicide missions to kill lots of civilians?

You are right. The media needs to show what goes on in those camps--how they make the missles & bombs, etc.

Mostly, the media needs to stop sugar-coating the utter barbarity of these "rock throwers".

look at those poor Sept 11 terrorists. All they had were a bunch of knives. They didn't even have their own planes-they had to use ours. Yet we have tanks, F-16's and daisy cutter bombs against noble warriors in caves. So let's sign a peace treaty with al qaeda and give them Manhattan for peace.

The USA has enough problems of it own without trying to take care of Israel and Palestine.I for one believe Israel has a right to live and exist. However not being there I dont know what the real truth is.But I know the truth in this country and in a much larger scale we are faced with the same problems as Israel about the right to self govern and exist. Our people are no longer Americans first, last foremost. We are all hyphenated Americans and real soon we will be in the same mess here they are over there.America may be of one accord on the war against terror but we have many factions here destroying this country in the name of diversity. We soon will not have an identity! We will be the Diverse Liberal States of America.

Arafat's Force 17 doesn't do well against soldiers facing them with guns in their hands. They do better against women with their backs turned and babies in their arms.

However not being there I dont know what the real truth is.

So you only know the truth when you are right on top of it?

But I know the truth in this country and in a much larger scale we are faced with the same problems as Israel about the right to self govern and exist.

Hmmmm..... How do you know what the true problems are in Israel since you're not there?

Our people are no longer Americans first, last foremost. We are all hyphenated Americans and real soon we will be in the same mess here they are over there.

What is the problem with "hyphenated" Americans? For example, do you have a problem with the St. Patrick's Day parade or the "wearin o' the green"? How about the Columbus Day parade? This country is a melting pot and has many flavors. Most of them are pretty good.

America may be of one accord on the war against terror but we have many factions here destroying this country in the name of diversity. We soon will not have an identity! We will be the Diverse Liberal States of America.

This country was made up of immigrants who retained their cultural heritage and made it part of this country. Diversity in and of itself is not the problem. The problem, IMHO, is tolerance of those cultures whose basic values conflict with the principles on which this country was founded, e.g., Islam.

Hi kattracks. More information is coming out now. Some can be found in this article, Israel Presses Offensive; Italian Journalist Killed I posted on FR. I didn't put it "Breaking News" as your thread is already going strong. Just thought those already following this story might want more details as they become available. Best regards, wonders
