Military Symbols

Posted on 03/12/2002 8:53:26 PM PST by Delphinium

I have been enjoying FreeRepublic for some time but have never joined in until now. I am busy working on two county commissioner races here in Idaho. Both of my candidates are Vietnam Vets, one a Marine and one from the Army. We are, at the moment, designing their signs. My question is: Would it be appropriate to put some kind of Vietnam Vet, Marine, or Army symbol on the sign? If so, do any of you have suggestions?

While I can't answer that, you have come to the right place. Freepers are the best company you will find. DON'T MENTION CHEESE OR MEESE! take care.

Naa, just put them in camo uniforms, arm them with assault rifles, and let them talk. In Idaho, it will go over great.

Why not Cheese, or Meese? I feel a little intimidated because I have so much to learn. First I had to have my 15 year old sign me in. Now he is in bed, can I continue be myself??? What if I mess up and mention Cheese, or Meese?

Your right, they are great candidates. They are like that already. Never been involved in politics until they saw that a republican county commissioner from Chicago, and another liberal democrat commissioner started trying to take away the freedoms they fought for. They did not like it when they heard "constitutionalist" spoken like a dirty word.

Welcome aboard mate.

You might include a Viet Nam Service Ribbon with dates of service if Veterans are your target audience. Most all Vets will recognize the VNS Medal. The medal or ribbon will be subtle, while your main theme on the sign should be the candidates themselves and the office they are seeking.

Keep it short and on point. You want to capture the nano-second exposure to a passing motorist.

There you have it. No charge. Good Luck!

If you plan on using the symbols you might contact DOD. I sort of doubt they would like use of the symbols in a political campaign.

I have seen candidates mention their military service on a list of accomplishments on mailout cards and such. You could perhaps use photos of them in uniform during that time period. I've also seen candidates do interviews or commercials in their homes or offices with a Marine Corps flag or plaque in frame.

I just wanted a small symbol. Something instead of the elephant, or GOP that decorate many signs. Not even decided whether to put anything there. Thanks for the advise.
