I don't believe in polls(anything within 10% can go either way as John Engler proved in 1990). I'm not convinced. All polls do is bring up complacency.

I only wish my senators were up for re-election.

I am holding out little to no hope that the GOP will maintain the House and regain the Senate in the upcoming elections.

Even the very popular FDR lost large numbers of seats in his first midterm election during WWII. 50 House seats if memory serves me right. 50! And about a dozen Senate seats.

Here's a reason they might not...

Kiss My Vote

We're a nation strong with immigrants
     Who know about fair play;
But you prefer the other ones,
     Without an honest day.
I know that you will call me names
But I will not be shy…
          Hey go ahead, kiss illegals,
          And kiss my vote goodbye.

I don't care if they're from Mexico,
     Canada, France or Spain.
I don't care if they swam a river,
Or got here in a plane.
I'm not giving up my country,
No matter how hard you try…
          Hey go ahead, kiss illegals,
          And kiss my vote goodbye.

Put down your economics,
     Your demographics too.
Uphold our laws and borders,
     As we elected you.
But if you're thinking otherwise,
We'll know for sure you lie…
          Hey go ahead, kiss illegals,
          And kiss my vote goodbye.

You lightly take your promises,
     But we will not forget.
Double cross us once again,
     Your sun will surely set.
The time has come to send them home,
And I have told you why…
          But go ahead, kiss illegals,
          And kiss my vote goodbye.

And if you' think it can't be done,
     Then step aside, we'll fight.
It's amnesty or honesty,
     Surrender or be right.
So listen, you politicians,
And hear our vengeful cry…
          Deport your dear illegals,
          Or kiss our votes goodbye.

My son is planning on working for Talent in MO almost full time this summer. I'm fearful that it might be a losing battle because the Widder Carnahan is getting nothing but soft press in the cities.

There is no "their leaders" and "our leaders." They are both sides of the same coins.

Put me on your 'Take back the senate' list, please. [No race in Indiana this year. And both senators, unforunately, are in the senate for life.]

A rant:

To: All

In the past year, the following "I won't vote for Bush if..." threads have been posted

"Bush to cave on Kyoto"

"Bush to cave on 2nd amendment rights"

"Bush to cave on tax reduction"

"Bush to cave on stem cell research"

"Bush to cave social security"

"Bush to cave ON and On and ON"

In every one of those examples Bush fought and got 90% of his demands met in Congress or in the case of Kyoto and UN funding for abortion acted on his and told the UN to go to hell. That is never enough, there is always the next "watershed decision" that many here dream up to avoid supporting a Republican and, make NO mistake it is the hated Republican that sticks in the craw of many here, that term is more hated by the libertarians, paleo-conservatives and assorted DU trolls than the term liberal has ever been subjected to.

It seems that every day there is a new "I won't support Bush if..." thread that generates a lot of outrage and yet when the actual "event" happens there is never a thread that retracts the hysteria exhibited earlier. There is NO way a politician will ever appease the single issue voter. Just as his steel tariffs have pissed off the free traders amongst us, it is what the " Buchanan America firsters" have been demanding and yet the AF faction on this site do not even acknowledge that Bush heard them, to the contrary, they whine it is too little too late.

Instead of all this whining and crocodile tears, just admit right out loud that nothing this man does will suffice and that he needs to be replaced with the best "conservative" candidate. However; the name of that candidate appears to be a closely guarded secret since no one has actually named this person because it surely cannot be anyone of the 1% vote getters that we know today.

End of rant

Speaking from Florida (which shares with Missouri the designation of swingstate among swingstates), Jeb will bury Janet Reno if she receives the nomination in September. Macbride is a wild card, as he is a wealthy trial lawyer (think John Edwards), although he lacks an important asset in politics: a personality.

Another important race will be Attorney General, where Charlie Crist will hopefully put to rest decades of Democratic dominance of this office. Hopefully, the Crackers upstate will support this Gulf Coast Greek, but we shall see who the Dems nominate in September.

I also predict that Crackerboy Bob Graham will be handily reelected in 2004.

Lordy, I hope you are right, but we all need to be activists at local, state, and national level, and take nothing for granted.

The past is prologue, and I think vote fraud, deception, and outright lies- besides the usual political "gaming" of redistricting- will still be as bad as ever.

You've said that more completely than I ever could, and Lord knows I've tried.

There is a large group on FR for whom GWB will never be able to satisfy. Their immature ranting speaks volumes about how little they truly comprehend the world we live in.

I never thought Bush would cave on tax reduction or Kyoto.

He did cave in, partially on stem-cell research, but I haven't parted ways him over that, as repugnant and regrettable as I believe his decision was.

But over and over again on illegals, we see efforts at "amnesty," "normalization," "regularization," "making their work legal," etc.

Sorry, not with my vote. 70% to 80% of the American people, across racial and demographic lines, oppose amnesty. Why would Bush use his popularity to lead a retreat?

Why shouldn't we warn him not to?

Spoken like a myopic Northeasterner.

How about we boost the population of your town by 10% to 20% with illegals?

I hear you loud and clear, all the way over there...

East of the Mississippi and North of the Mason-Dixon.
