I don't know. I didn't even know there was an age requirement. Someone posted that Ford couldn't win state-wide so it seems to be a moot point.

Yes, he looked good on paper, but he wasn't much of a "Conservative" and he most assuredly is in the Trial Lawyers' pocket. No tort reform with him around!
The good news is that, now that Tennesseans have gotten over their phobia of pulling the 'R' lever, Thompson's successor is most likely to be a 'Pubbie'.

Congressman Ford's support stops at the Memphis City limits. He would not be a threat in a statewide election.

We are going to have a very tough time getting the Senate back now. Now we have to fight for this seat also. Really hurts the cause.

Why not press Thompson to run, get re-elected, then let the Republican governor (it is a Republican, right?) appoint another conservative?

Lamar Alexander? You've got to be kidding. Tennessee has a population of almost 6 million to choose from. Let's not recycle some Rino. How about someone from the State Senate who has been leading the fight against a state income tax? Sundquist wouldn't be a supporter but that'll constitute an endorsement.

Yeah, he's only the most hated man in the state, that's all. Ran on a "no new taxes" platform, and has used every form of subterfuge known to man to try to force through a state income tax. "Liar" and "Taxquist" are two of the kinder things he's called.

She is not running yet but she should be encouraged to. If grassroots conservatives want representation they have to fight for it and not just accept the "conservative" that the party elite gives them. Senator Thompson is not a TRUE grassroots conservative and he never has been. Any handpicked "successor", be it Bryant or Alexander, will not stand up for us because we did not put them there.

Good news since that saves us a lot of time effort, and money that would have otherwise gone in to trying to defeat him and his fellow RINO Democrat Incumbent Protection Act supporters!

Maybe if we could Trent Lott to retire se would have some new leadership step up to the challenge. Lott can't even lead the line at the mens room, let alone the Senate.

That's still a LOT of effort for him to go through, if his mind isn't focused on it. Not to mention that it could be seen as unethical, and deny Republicans the moral high ground to criticize Jeffords.
