My son was having HUGE social problems in elementary school. And he WAS the cause of the problems. A psychiatrist told us to sign him up for baseball and then turned to my son and told him, " Don't worry about the other kids. They're just jealous because you're so much smarter than they are."

Precisely. That is why he is defending her. If she is exonerated, they can both lay the guilt on mental disease; however, I feel she will get the needle as she deserves and he will live with the guilt of his own stupidity in this matter just as he deserves.

Ok, this might make me a "bad" Christian dad, but I'll say it.
My wife and I have been married 14 years. 15 this June. We have 3 gorgeous kids. She's a stay at home mom. We stopped at 3 for 2 reasons. 1) We couldn't afford anymore my income alone and 2) I don't think my wife was meant to have 20 kids just because her uterus might be able to take it.
She had an epidural with all 3 births. Hell, if she hadn't taken I would have.....just watching her in that pain would have killed me.
I do NOT have her on a schedule. I do NOT need to "allow her private time". As soon as my big butt gets home, all she needs to say is, "Hon, I'm going ....blah blah blah." My usual response is, "Ok, love you!" And sometimes, "hey.....will you bring me some doughnuts/ice cream/cookies?" (She has us on a strict healthy food thing:-( )
Twice a year she and old college and sorority chums get together for a week. She goes without me and the kids. We survive just fine. She has yet to come home to a burnt kitchen or anything like that.
I love my wife because she is beautiful, has a warm heart, a brain, cajones, and is my rock. I never wanted a slave.

As soon as she gets the needle, he will have killed them all. Way to go Rusty, you stupid jackass.

This man seems to have loved his wife the way a rancher loves his cattle. Property.
I'd hope my wife would leave me flat if I ever treated her this way.

Andrea Yates still would have been mentally ill even with a good husband but I doubt she would have been driven to murder their kids if her husband had acted more like you.

Punch on the newscasts, especially the two of Rusty's press conf. I had heard that Rusty was unnaturally calm during this press conference , I would say he was Supernaturally Calm I needed to see that press conference in order to have a more informed opinion. I don't know how anyone could have thought to ask him a question - I would think they would have been rendered speechless. He was like an incredibly gifted robot, one who looked real, but could say emotionally charged words with no human pain.

His treatment drove his wife to insanity, or his testimony is calculated to make the jurors (and us) think he drove his wife to insanity, when in fact his actions were an order of magnitude less egredious than testified to. Boy you know I hadn't thought of that. Good point!

I would not vote for the death penalty I don't know that I would either... I am furious but I can't say for sure without being in there and hearing everything.

"So we agree. She was sick." yea, but GUILTY of murder
she needs to pay with her LIFE or a LIFE SENTENCE ....I'm hoping for DEATH.
She took 5 lives, and is trying to spare her own, what a sickening murderous woman, never a mother.
To: xsmommy
I agree. This man was more than an accessory; he was a perpetrator. Knowing more about him makes it clearer why his mother and father did not intervene in a situation that was obviously perilous to the children.

And maybe he could have helped out a little too. Even Pat Robertson has said he doesn't mind pushing a vacuum cleaner.
And if she was suffering from depression so serious that she needed to be put on a schedule, why did they have 5 kids??????

Well, I've read this article and all 414 replies so far and the ONLY thing that keeps going through my mind is to wonder what kind of terror those little ones where experiencing in the last minutes of their precious little lives. I'm also tired of crying and looking like a loon here at work but it's as though I am transfixed by this story and keep hoping that it will turn out to be a horrendous mistake!! My GOD! What woman can give birth (espeically naturally) to five precious babies and then cold-bloodedly kill the precious things? Mental illness be damned! If she was wrapped tight enough to know how to fill the tub and then later to dial the cops, she knew she was committing an EVIL act and that her precious babies wouldn't survive it!! If I had access to her and her low-life, pond-scum-sucking excuse for a husband, I offer the gun and ammunition to take care of them both and then offer to pull the damned trigger myself!!
Sorry to rant so but as a mother of three children who also home-schools and knows from experience what being married to an alcholic control freak who didn't even give me three hours for myself, no car, no phone, no money and no close neighbors, I CANNOT for the life of me even consider this woman as part of the human race! Of course, I got out of the controlled/dangerous relationship (finally - after 14 years) so maybe I'm just a more self-reliant sort than she is.

"they have their 4 children on "the schedule" for meals, naps, bedtime, etc. Of course, it doesn't work, they're unhappy, and the wife is bulimic, but the schedule is all important." (lol) sorry to laugh but you write with such honesty, he sounds like a nightmare in-law (aren't most of them tho?)
He'll probably wonder WHY no one ever wants them to visit.
